I have the BOB revolution; I attempted to run w/ the front wheel locked today.. yeah, no. that is not happening. It's impossible to steer, we have to go around corners, and be able to get out of the road so I have to be able to steer the dang thing. I ran w/ it unlocked, and it was fine, but it pulls to the left so I have to keep pressure on the handle the entire time. I think DH can adjust it, right?
My wheel pulls when locked, and I can adjust the little knob on the front to fix it (though I have never gotten it straight enough for my liking). I run with the wheel unlocked all the time, never had a problem. I am pretty slow and since I mostly do loops in my neighborhood, I am turning a lot.
It takes some (learned) skill to steer. It's a bit of an arm workout to steer around all of our corners in our neighborhood, but it's a much smoother ride with the wheel locked. DS loves the "wheelies" we do when we turn corners. Also-for the curves in the road, I've found it's easiest to push on one side to go into the curve, giving one arm a break, then do the other side on the opposite curve, if that makes sense.

I think this is helpful advice. I find it much sturdier to run with the wheel locked, especially on hills and unpaved trails. I had a fixed wheel only for a number of years though, so maybe I just got used to it early on. I forgot to lock the wheel on the Revolution once and the darned thing tipped going down the first steep hill. It wasn't too hard to correct (upper body strength for the win), but it freaked me out.
Reading this thread makes me happy I never bought a running stroller.
Ha! I'm just going to use these threads to convince DH that I need the super expensive jogging stroller w/disc brakes. I don't know if it's actually any better (it better ride better for twice the price), but damn it, it looks sooooo cool/sexy!

LOL at anything looking cool or sexy with a baby on board My BOB looks hot with its muddy wheels and duct taped on parent console. The good news is you can always find a stray goldfish in the seat if you get hungry mid run.

Bingo!
dont worry clseale - you'll find a way to keep it sexy! The only time I get cat-called is when I'm pushing the bob! Isn't that flattering?!

I know, I'm ridiculous. LOL It's so pretty though! Look, some people get wrapped up in designer diaper bags, or some other random crap. I want the cool stroller, damn it! There are some serious mom racers around here. Since my hatred for 5ks runs deep, I already told DH he can have them once we have kids, and I'll happily take the stroller division. For that sacrifice, I should get the intimidating stroller.
In reality, the wastefulness of it would be too much for me to stomach, but the biker in DH totally H&F-geeks out on it too.
ETA: To be clear, I have no delusions that it will make me or my baby (LOL) look sexy. It's just a pretty little machine.

yes! When I only saw the pic and didn't read what you wrote, I was thinking that this seems very geeky aero to me! Lol

Actually, I use a double now, and it's probably not so sexy anymore. LOL. It IS red, though it's huge. I tried to walk into Starbucks this morning and couldn't fit through the door. Whoops. Fixed wheel only, too. But you can get a hand brake for it! And it can be a bike trailer (and used for hiking, strolling and skiing, too!). Basically, it's awesome.

We have a BOB with a fixed wheel - no option to unlock. I have never had a problem. Just takes some practice to learn how to push down on the back handle bar a little and pivot to turn. I feel it in my arms and core.

Yes. You have to engage your core. After my first bob run my abs were so sore. It took me a minute to realize why
Stingy, I didn't really answer your question, I just blabbed about other things. Sorry.
I think once you "true" your front wheel, you won't have an issue. If it was about preference, I would probably not lock it. But, since it's a safety issue, it's not a big deal for me to fix it to make it as safe as possible.
Did I miss something about clseale Or are you just planning ahead ?
No, not yet! I have a firm commitment to DH, though. After Boston (4/2015), it's baby time. I've run out of reasons to delay, so I'm trying to embrace it & build my excitement. Right now, I just get all sweaty when I think about it. lol
Dude, I feel ya. Running with the front wheel locked is taking some serious getting used to. I should probably make more of an effort to run with AJ (lately we've just been going on walks, and I leave the front wheel unlocked for that) so I get more used to it but damnit running is my ME ME ALLLLLL MEEEEEEEE time

Researching strollers is the first thing I did too. Read baby books? Nope. What to expect when your expecting? Nope. Spend time with actual babies? Nope.
