I have a 10k coming up in August (beach to beacon, if anyone's familiar - a very iconic New England race) and I need to get myself on track.
I can do 10k now but it's a little painful. My last 10k was last fall and I had been building up distance to get to that point. Given our winter this year, I focused on strength and circuit training since October and am now adding more running back in (I did run over the winter, just not as much as I was).
I've managed to shave a minute per mile off my pace with the circuit/strength training.
I would like to gradually work up to a nice pace (9ish min miles), not as painful 10k by August. Yesterday I did a 9:15/mile 4 miles so I am not far off.

I used the training plans on the garmin website for my 5k training and shaved off a little over a minute per mile do the plan. I've been using the 10k plan now and it seems to incorporate 1-2 days of intervals, a long run, and short runs.
I also know that the Hal Hidgon plans are widely regarded for the half and full marathon and he has some 10k plans as well.
