What race & when? Lake Wobegon Trail Marathon this Saturday!
Any highlights / AW's this week? Nothing big, but I feel pretty good.
Frustrations or setbacks? Happily, no. I'm still debating whether to race w/ compression socks or not. My shin has been ok lately, but usually it doesn't get bad until long runs.
How often do you like to race? Do you try to plan for multiple shorter races as part of marathon training? I'd like to race more, but I usually do 2-3 long races per year ( 1/2 or marathon) with a few 5K or 10K races when the timing works out. Farming makes it hard to race as much during summer/fall, and winter is snowy here!
What's your favorite post-race meal or treat? Giant burger or sandwich with some sort of bacon/cheese/fried things and a beer. I like chocolate milk & pretzels plus oranges right after. (I don't eat the oranges with the milk.)
Share a long-term (think 5 year plan) running or fitness goal: I've still got a BQ on the brain.
What race & when? Andy Payne Marathon-Sept 14 (assumed date-jerks still haven't announced it) 24 the Hard Way 12hr road option-Oct 25
Any highlights / AW's this week? I was able to run 6 miles yesterday morning after doing a 40 mile hilly bike ride on Sat. I thought for sure that 1) I would suck majorly at the bike ride (I didn't) and 2) that the Sun run would hurt. It didn't.
Frustrations or setbacks? I am beginning to question a little bit if I'll be able to handle the busy training schedule that I'll need to maintain to do the ultra. I am super busy right now, and I only have 2 night classes (total of 3 nights/week). In the fall, I'll have class M-T-W-TH nights. I just don't know if I'll be able to do it, but maybe I'll feel better about it once I've gotten used to fully training again.
How often do you like to race? Do you try to plan for multiple shorter races as part of marathon training? I am a racing addict. If I had the money, I'd probably race every other weekend, if not every one. I'm throwing in a half marathon in June that wasn't planned simply because it's a new race and maybe I could place in my AG. It falls on a weekend where I should have done 14 miles, so I'll just use the race as the long run. As I get closer to the goal race, though, I become very hesitant to race. I don't want to get hurt. But I have roughly 15 races on my schedule for this year (including a charity ride and 2 duathlons). I'm not sure that all of them will actually pan out, but they're on the radar.
What's your favorite post-race meal or treat? chocolate milk
Share a long-term (think 5 year plan) running or fitness goal: Triathlon (any distance) by 35; half or full ironman by 40. BQ by 50. I turned 30 in Oct of last year.
Good morning ladies! It's race week for.... blndsnbrdr - 50 MILE And Me thom - 26.2
It's awesome to see some new faces here lately. Here we go:
What race & when? Quad Rock 50M - May 10th
Any highlights / AW's this week? I'm actually listening to the whole "taper" thing...considering I had not actual training plan it's weird to be think I'm racing in 5 days [que panic attack!] so saying I'm tapering feels weird. But, after this past weekend's miles I think my body is ready!
Frustrations or setbacks? Nothing major -- but not saying that outloud! #knockonwood
How often do you like to race? Do you try to plan for multiple shorter races as part of marathon training? I just added my list of 2014 races to my blog this weekend...it's so short! Only 8 races this year, which is almost nothing compared to the last two years. However, just two of this year's races will put me at nearly the same race distance as last year [160 miles "raced"].
Normally I prefer to use races as training runs and I'm currently on the prowl for races to add to my schedule for the sake of training runs...we'll see how my wallet feels about that!
What's your favorite post-race meal or treat? Blue Powerade. Cold. Chugged. Then salty stuff - chips, french fries, etc. And margaritas, I think. I haven't had one post race, but man, I've been craving one post run!
Share a long-term (think 5 year plan) running or fitness goal: Hoping for a solid year of running ultras this year -- regardless of how the actual races pan out I hope to learn a lot and keep going after the 50-100+ mile distances. I really want a full 24 hour race timed race...and I'm fairly certain that will eventually lead to a 6 day race. But we'll see how this year goes first. I'm not setting those stupid long races as goals just yet, but I refuse to rule them out.
Good luck to everyone racing this weekend! I'll definitely be thinking of you thom!
What race & when? Gov Cup 6/14 and Air Force Marathon 9/20
Any highlights / AW's this week? I had a really good 15 miler this week.
Frustrations or setbacks? Nope
How often do you like to race? Do you try to plan for multiple shorter races as part of marathon training? I like to race a lot. lol I run about 1 race a month. I do add halfs in purposely when training for marathons. Most of the time the smaller races I do are just little local ones, so nothing major.
What's your favorite post-race meal or treat? Oranges are my favorites.
Share a long-term (think 5 year plan) running or fitness goal: Sub-4 marathon. And of course, the ever elusive BQ someday.
