I just realized our baby registry seems kind of heavy on the baby containment devices. We registered for:
-a swing (already bought) -a PNP with newborn napper/changing station (already bought) -a RNP (already bought) -a bouncer -a baby seat (kind of like a Bumbo but a different brand) -the SpaceSaver high chair (already bought)
Do I really need all of these? I mean, I know I don't NEED them, but is this excessive? If so, what would you take off/return?
FWIW, we have a big house, so I definitely want to have somewhere to put the baby down for a nap on the first floor and in our bedroom, aside from the crib in the nursery. Storage space is definitely not an issue and we plan to have 2-3 kids.
(Obviously, I am nesting like mad and freaking the eff out because my shower is in less than 2 weeks and these are pretty much the only things bought off the registry so far.)
Actually, I'd add a Jumperoo or exersaucer. We only use the pnp when travelling. The swing was packed up around 4 months when the jumperoo came out. The bouncer lasted a similar time - 3 or 4 months. Bumbo was about 4-7 months.

We've gotten a ton of use out of all of that except the Bumbo. DD slept in the RnP for the first 5.5 months. PnP is still being used as a changing table in our master and we'll use it for traveling. Swing was used for all naps. Bouncer was used for her to hang out in everyday when I was getting stuff done. We didn't use the Bumbo much, but I know they have other brands that you can use as they get even bigger so I could see getting one of those. And of course the high chair gets a ton of use.
People always wait until the last minute to buy shower gifts. Why would your friends & fam want these (or other) items cluttering up their own houses for the next two weeks? Many will purchase on the way to the shower!
As for what to keep/return... depends on the kid. My son hated the swing, but we used the Fisher Price rainforest bouncer every dang day for at least nine months. We even took it apart and stashed it in a suitcase when we traveled with him! He's 4 now and still loves to play with the hanging toys and music on it. You will need a high chair, and a space saver is a great idea. We didn't get much use out of our Bumbo though. You *probably* don't need a bouncer and a RNP unless your kid prefers one over the other--or like you said, you stash one on a different floor. We use the PNP a ton--as a place to nap/change on the first floor, for trips that we drove (if we flew, we rented from a baby equipment place).

We used the rocker seat from 0-3 mths and we used the swing (godsend) from month 2-6. We never used a pack and play, but if you have space, it is nice for in your room. The bumbo was a gift. We liked it for the first few weeks of solids when she wasnt a great sitter. But probably not required.

It's hard to say because some kids will not be contained. For DS1 I had a portable swing, bouncer, pnp with newborn napper, and a Bebe Pod. He hated all of it except the pnp. I gave away the swing (it sucked, big time - it was a little one and you had to kneel to get him in it) and bouncer. For DS2 I bought the rnp, still had the pnp and Bebe Pod, and bought a fancy swing. We also had a Jumperoo left from DS1.
pnp and rnp - awesome, used daily from birth till they were/are too big for them
swing - great if your kid likes it. Mine is for sale on Craigslist because DS2 will not go in it
bouncer - eh. You could get rid of this and be fine since the rnp is so light
baby seat - OK, but used for such a short amount of time
Jumperoo - DS1 hated, but DS2 loves.
What about a carrier instead? DS1 loved to be carried. I have a Babyhawk meitai, and a Beco Butterfly. I use the meitai around the house to vacuum/get things done and the Beco when we are out and about.

Yeah, I figure if Kid #1 doesn't like it, we can always stash it away and try it again on #2 and/or #3.
I also have an Ergo and a Moby on the registry for carriers.

I had all of those except for the bumbo. Two kids and all were/are used at some point. Add in an exersaucer and/or jumperoo if you want. The Rock and Play was the best, by the way.

Seems excessive to me. I would take the baby seat and bouncer off the list since they have not been bought yet. From your list we only used a PNP and a high chair.

Yes. Add a jumperoo and you're good.
We actually have two swings, a big one that plugs into the wall (no batteries) and a travel swing that folds up and is great to take when we go to our parents houses for dinner.
We would have been fine with just a bouncy seat, pack n play, and high chair. The Bumpo was kind of nice, but far from indispensible, and it had a very limited shelf-life. Both my kids hated the swing so it was totally useless for us. I don't even know what a rock n play is--I don't think they had them when I was registering in 2007.

I say yes to it all. The only thing we didn't have was the RNP, but since you said you have a big house, that'd be perfect as a second place to let him sleep. (our PNP's bassinet came out, so we used that in other rooms when he was a newborn).
We have all of those plus a jumperoo, an exersaucer, a portable swing, a travel booster and a second pack and play. I don't regret having any of it and we use it all or did use it with the first one. DS2 only likes the travel swing and DS1 only liked the big swing. I thought about returning things before and am glad we didn't.
The rock and play RULES by the way and we were able to take it when we went on a trip to the beach when DS2 was three weeks old and it was so great to have. He is still napping in it now at almost 4 months.
Right about now is when we are starting to use the exersaucer and jumperoo a lot more and the swing not so much. We actually got our exersaucer at a community yard sale for $5 and the jumperoo off of craigslist for $15. They use most of that stuff for such a short time I would go for used when you fill in whatever you don't get from your showers. You really don't NEED a bumbo and if I had to cross something off it would be that. I actually got that for $3, and they have them everywhere used, craigslist, consignment, yard sales.
Used them all. Bumbo the least though. Swing was a lifesaver. She didn't sleep in the RNP, but it was a great place to put her in our bedroom while I got ready.
Now that she is older (10 months), I wouldn't be able to shower without the exersaucer. We have the evenflo splash one.

I would add one more thing - a doorway jumper. It's great for when you need to shower in the morning since its easy to put up and then take down & throw in the closet.
As for jumperoo, we have the rainforest one. It's hideous but both my kids love it and that's what counts.

I didn't have the RNP and J HATED the bouncer, but I don't think having all of those available to you is excessive. Different kids like different things - and what this little guy likes could be different than what the next kid(s) like.
We also had the Evenflo rainforest exersaucer and J loved that thing for a good 4 months. It can be assembled into a play station once he's walking, so we'll get some more use out of it soon.
IMO it's really going to be dependent on the kid. You may buy all these right now and find your kid hates one or that you don't get a lot of use out of one. But it's hard to say which one right now.
FWIW we had 2 swings that DD loved (one we registered for, one MIL insisted on getting anyway), a PnP that DD lived in during the day for the first several months, and a Bumbo-type seat. We never had a RnP, bounder, or space-saver high chair. Just a standard one. DD did just fine.
My baby hated most of those things. We used the pnp in out room for three months and use it to travel. We got the basic one and never missed the changing pad on it. We used a bouncer a bit, but she hated the swing. Never got a bumpo. The jumperoo wasn't used a lot. No rnp. Our high chair comes apart and an be put on the floor or strapped to a chair, which is nice when traveling to someone's house.

We have all that stuff minus the RnP, but add a jumperoo. We have the "Luv U Zoo" one. I didn't feel like our house was overrun with baby stuff until DD was big enough for us to pull out the jumperoo. I like the bumbo and tray for when she just wants to sit and shove toys in her mouth (all the time right now) but she can't sit alone yet. It also works well for her to to sit in and pet the dogs.
We keep the bouncer upstairs. She sits in it while I get ready in the mornings. Our pack n play is downstairs, mostly for he changing station. I didn't think the newborn napper part looked safe, and I was paranoid about her sleeping on too soft of a surface, so we never used it. That's also why I didnt want a RnP although the bump swears by them. We were given a doorway jumper as well, but haven't used it yet... I sound like a paranoid freak... I don't sterilize her paci when it falls on the floor- does that make me sound less crazy? Lol!!
