So we got Ponyo on Saturday, and she spent the whole day stuck to my side. Sunday she became a crazy hyper machine. We had to take her to the vet on Monday because her stitches from her surgery were gone. They gave her a cone of shame, and think she is a lot younger then we were told. She has been really mouthier, and snapped at my Husband a few times when he makes her get off the couch. We had a dog trainer come out to help train her, and the kids. We plan on doing obedience training. The trainer thinks she might of been taken from her mom and just doesn't understand how to play well. She already has picked up sit, down, leave it, crate time for most of the time. She broke her halter, snapped it in half on a walk. We ended up with a gentle leader on recommendations from the trainer, and she does really well. She doesn't growl, or have any other aggression, even against other dogs growling at her. She just wants to be with us. Even our daughter wants to pet her. She still scared of her when she goes crazy and makes rounds in the house. Her coat has improved, and I can't wait to give her a bath lol.
The only really negative is her biting, even if its more like a puppy mouthing things I do worry about the kids. So far its just me or my husband she mouths on, and acts like she is a little scared of the kids. Our trainer really thinks she can be broken of that.
We use a gentle leader with my dog, I love it. It's great. The mouthy thing can be trained out of her. Yay puppy!
I love the leader, but a lot of people think its a muzzle. Then they think she is aggressive or bites. It makes it so much easier to walk her. My 4 year old can hold the leash (with me holding the back part just in case) and control her. We ran into a older couple who asked about her muzzle and ended up petting her for a good 2 mins. She does so well on it, really worth the money.

We get that a lot too. But our dog is a giant and people are wary of her to begin with. I can't walk her without the gentle leader, It makes such a difference.

After seeing how great it worked my SIL went and bought one for her 80 lb lab mix. She raves about it too now.

I'm not sure what breed she is, but I had a cattle dog and she was prone to "herding," e.g. snapping at my heels when I walked. She grew/was trained out of it pretty quickly.
We had a corgi and he herded the kids and would nip at them (DD's shoes in particular). He grew out of it and was trained out of it. It was frustrating for a bit though.

She is listed as an Italian greyhound/ lab mix. She was a stray and they just guessed I think. I get Whippet a lot when we walking.
One of our dogs is extremely mouthy. One thing we did to help with it, is that we never pet her, when we got home, until she had a toy in her mouth. Now, when we get home, she freaks out looking for a toy and then wiggles near us with it. Definitely a huge improvement over getting gnawed on by a pit bull.
If she ever learns to hold her head straight and tug with the gentle leader on (something my dog did), I would also recommend the halti harness. She's a beauty, by the way.
