I'm wandering over from ML because I'm planning on getting back in shape. I have a gym membership but haven't gone in a few months because of nursing school (which I am now graduated from, yay)!
I used bodybuilding.com for workout plans. I mostly did cardio/weight lifting routines but plan on trying to focus on more running this time around.
Welcome, and congrats on graduation!! I need to work on more strength training, but running is so much easier/enjoyable for me, so I mostly do that. I'm trying to get better! You'll find a good mix of both on this board.
For all you runners- I am thinking about signing up for a run. I am a person who does not particularly like running at all, but I want to get past this and start training. How far out do you think would be realistic to sign up for?

Where are you at with running now? Is it a "I go out and run a mile every now & then" or are we talking from scratch? If it's from scratch & you're thinking of a 5k, a lot of people on here have done the couch to 5k program. I think it's 8ish weeks.

Basically from scratch. Is this an actual program that you buy?

There's actually an app! I just looked for it. Search for c25k. I haven't done it, but quite a few girls on here have. My best friend used it for her first 5k, and liked it.

Oh, I missed this when I posted my welcome. I was watching hockey while posting. This means I'm distracted. And slow. Sorry.
Anyway. If you're a super beginner (like I am/was) I'd shoot for a 5k. Give yourself some time to work up to it though. When I started a year ago, I couldn't run a mile. There are a lot of programs -- a popular one is couch to 5k -- but I just kind of got out there and did it without a plan.
That said, lots of other people here will have more knowledge than I do.
ETA: clseale is all over Couch to 5K! See -- I told you I was being slow and not reading. Silly playoffs!
