I've been really into this niche running podcast and he's big on setting crazy-town goals. Goals that are far enough out there that people at work would give you the side eye.
What goals do you have?
Medium term goals: -2 half marathons in one year (2014? ) -finish first marathon in under 5 hours (2015?)
Longish term goals: -2:00:00 half marathon (current PR is 2:29:25) -4:30:00 marathon (current PR is non-existent lol) -20:00 5K (current PR is 25:00)
Really long term goals: Through hike the Appalachian Trail. Part of me wants to retire into this - like set out the day after I retire or something wacky like that. I've wanted to be a thru hiker since high school, so this is my crazytown goal.
The only long-term possible crazy town goal I have is to BQ. My marathon was such a mind fvck that I don't want that to take away from everything else I've accomplished recently. I've also watched my husband chase a BQ and have seen how demoralizing not BQing can be. So if it happens some day that is great, if not, oh well.
My 2014 goals are: Sub 1:50 half (Did this at Nike) Sub 23 5k A) PR at MCM and B) Sub 4 hrs
Oh and I forgot I do have skating goals too: Land my axel Pass my silver moves test

I don't do well with serious stretch goals. It's just not my style. Most of my goals are fairly realistic, but require hard work to get there.
My stretch goal for my tri coming up is to complete it in less than an hour (9+ minutes faster than last year, most of which would have to come off the bike). I would be thrilled if it happens, but...I dunno.
Running goals: Sub 2:20 half (PR 2:27) Sub 60 10k (PR 1:08) Run a marathon (and be in reasonable good shape so that sub-5:00:00 isn't too much of a stretch.
I also would like to do more triathlons and become more comfortable on my bike.
1) sub 1:40 half- I should have that at my next race 2) sub 3:30 full- If I hit the speed work, I might...MIGHT be able to pull that off this fall. We'll see. 3) Run Boston- I have the BQ, so that should hopefully happen next April
Long term, far fetched, wouldn't it be great goals are some sort of ultra, there are some big marathons (San Fran, Big Sur, London...and probably a few more I would love to do). I want to do Hood to Coast. I would also LOVE to do a two person team with DH & do this one day. It's my craziest. www.coasttocoast.co.nz/website/
My biggest long term goal is to stay active. I spent so much of my life being inactive that I'm terrified that it will only take one injury to send me back to that place. Of course I'd love to BQ one day, but I think aging in will be the only way that happens.
2014 goals Sub 30 5k - done Sub 2:00 half - not quite Complete a marathon - baring unforeseen circumstances the should happen in October Run 1000 miles - I'm on track to run more. ( knock on wood)
i don't have any long term or stretch goals right now. My 2014 goal was to PR anything, which I did! My current goals: 5k PR. A few seconds would be plenty. I want the 19:xx Sub 7 pace for a half
Hmm. This year I want to see 5:59 in a HIM and 1:59 in a HM, as A goals.
Then I would like to get pregnant.
At some future-indeterminate time after that I would like to finish a 26.2 and a 140.6.
ETA: I also want to PR in the 10k. Currently my PR is from college (2001). 54:06 (8:40). Based on my recent 5 miler pace (8:32) I should be able to do it, but I haven't had a 10k race chance.

I actually looked up my goals for 2014 that I set back in December on the board. I've already hit most of them or will by the end of the year (12 races in 2014).
Updated for 2014: 1) Another sub-30 min 5k 2) sub-60 min 10k 3) 2 Half marathons 4) sub 2:30 half marathon
Stretch/long term goals 1) sub 2:00 half marathon 2) Run a marathon 3) Run the Boston Marathon (either BQ or charity team)
Well, I'd like to have another baby this year. If I don't have a baby this year, these would be my goals for the next calendar year. But, if we do get pregnant, these will be more in the 3-4 year range:
sub 5:40 HIM, another IM (I can give a time goal in a few weeks, I guess), sub 4 marathon, 1:45 half marathon (this should mean easily a sub 4 full, but by-golly I missed it this last time with a 1:50 half ), 50K
Oh yeah, since others are adding this in, I'm also supposed to be having a tiny human or two. Out of all of my goals, this is the one my co-workers would find most shocking. lol
Apparently i'm going w/5, but i may need to re-assess.
Sigh. Yes, I remember. You will notice that in that thread I said IF I BQ, it would put a delay in plans. We all know that just a month after that thread, I DID BQ, so that gives me a pass until spring 2015.

Short term goals: - at least 2 half marathons before the end of the year, and under 1:43 (that was my pre-kids PR which I broke when DD was a year old) - run a 21 min 5k again - lose a couple more vanity pounds, improve my body composition
Medium term goals: - Set some new PRs, any distance - I think I still want 1 more baby? My biological clock is ticking, so this goes under medium term goals
Longish term goals: - Run a sub 3:20 marathon, I think I still have one in me
Really long term goals: Get into triathlons one day. I think I can learn to like swimming; I have a fear of cycling on the road really holding me back.

I am here as well, I was going to post something about this closer to tri training, but I was involved in a craptacular accident about 6 years ago and it's going to shake me to the core to get my bike back out on the road.
See if your your local bike shop offers lessons. That might help you to feel more comfortable on the bike.

I've gone to my local bike shop a few times in the past couple years. A bunch of people in my running group also do group rides and have been egging me on. I just can't pull the trigger.
Cycling takes skill and coordination. That's why I'm a runner, y'all. I'm a klutz at any other sport. But if we're throwing out crazy goals......
My goal every day is to get through the day without melting down. Babies.. they are crazy.
My real goals: --Get my body back to a place that I'm comfortable with - pre pregnancy weight is great, but my body composition is uh... different than prior to getting pregnant.
-- Half marathon in Nov/Dec/Jan -- Not kill MH for mentioning that he wants another baby, asap. (is he f'ing insane?)
I don't have any time limits on my goals, but they are:
-Break 2:00 for a half -Break 27:30 for a 5k -Break 54:00 for a 10k -Complete a triathlon (this will require me to actually save $ and buy a bike instead of buying clothes for work!)
That's it, really. I'm sure that if I break 2:00 for a half I'll come up with another goal, but I never dreamed it was even remotely possible until November of last year when I ran 10 miles at an 8:50 average. My first half was a 2:23 in 2010.
Master the pistol squat Develop more confidence box jumping Sub 7 minute mile (I'm so not a fast runner!) Do some open water swims on our local lake- landing to landing, starting with the shortest (1.2 miles) and working up to the furthest (6 miles).

::rubbing my hands together with a scheming smile:: ohh the many low traffic, huge shouldered highways and multiuse trails - ABQ might just be the place to get comfy on a road bike
