Thanks for all your well wishes. I thought about them on the course, especially at the end when the sun got hot, and hotter, and my legs just didn't want to move.
I think this was the roughest last 10K of my 3 marathons.
I was on pace solidly for the first 20, and still on sub- 4 until mile 23. It just got warmer, my stomach was unhappy, legs cramps. Nothing epic, but the pace just wasn't there anymore, and once sub-4 was gone I had a hard time regrouping.
I still finished w/ a PR of 4:03. Previous PR was 4:05. I guess I'm a mix of emotions and trying to analyze what went right & wrong. My parents & H were at the finish, which was amazing.
Thank you all for the H&F love. Full report to come later on the blog.
Edit: I should add it was a beautiful day, but the 70 degree sunshine at finish was a little much for my winter acclimated Minnesota body. The breeze was a headwind, but felt good even if it slowed me down some.
Congratulations!!! Seriously, major congratulations.
I know it didn't go as you hoped, and I'm sorry that the conditions made for an even tougher final 10k. I hope you can still feel proud of your amazing accomplishment. Not only did you run a fast marathon, you've now run 3 solid marathons! That's quite a feat! You are amazing!
Congratulations on another great marathon! 70 and sunny was what we had in Boston, and it was hot! Plus you had a headwind? That is tough! Getting a PR with all that is fantastic! Enjoy the rest of your day/evening.
Well you are just the cutest marathoner to ever marathon! Love the pics.
I'm sorry it didn't go quite as you hoped, but it's tough to keep it together when you watch your A goal slip away. Congrats on staying tough & grabbing a PR!! Great job!
You are all fabulous & are making me feel better. My H is already worried I'm scheming for another spring marathon because I missed my goal. He might be right, but I also feel like later races are just destined to be even hotter. What to do...
It started out a brisk 38, and warmed up nearly 8- 10 degrees an hour. So I did have weather on my side for awhile.
My Mom is adorable. She is always cold, as evidenced by her outfit. She kept trying to put my space blanket back on me, and I had to nicely tell her I was seriously roasting hot.
Great job in your race, even though you didn't get the time you wanted you still rocked it. The marathon is such a temptress, you can do everything right and those extra few degrees do you in.

Congratulations! Spring races (where it suddenly turns 70 and sunny) are so tough after all your training in freezing temps. You should be proud you battled through for a new PR.
Congrats on the PR. It is a really awesome marathon time even if it is just short of what you were hoping for. Weather can change everything, I'm sorry it didn't go your way.
