I'll be flying into Berlin and I'd like to cram as much in as possible. I'm willing to rent a car travel by train. Does anyone have some tips? What are the must-see cities and sights?
Honestly, stick to two cities. Otherwise you are going to spend too much time traveling between all the places. Or stick to region and either rent a car or take the train just in that area.
We did 5 nights in Berlin and the 6 nights at the Baltic Sea afterwards. Could of spent less time at the Baltic since it was winter. But it was the relaxing part of the trip and we went so H could show me where he grew up.
I imagine crisscrossing around will just eat up to much time and rush you through places.

I think a popular thing to do in Germany is to divide the time between Berlin and Munich and then do side trips from those two places. You won't need a car rental to do that, just stick to the trains. They're easy. Or you could rent a car and do something like drive the Romantic Road. I'm not sure how much time that takes.

Thanks for mentioning these regions. Originally, I was thinking of spending 2 to 3 nights in Berlin, before flying to Frankfurt. From there, I'd take day trips to Heidelberg, and maybe a town along the Rhine, before taking the train up to Dusseldorf. From there, I'd fly back to Berlin for the departure flight back home.
What do you think of this plan? Should I bypass the Rhine Valley and spend some time in Munich instead?
FYI, I'll be there during winter, in time for the Christmas markets.

When will you be there? I will be there Nov 21st-Dec 9th and I will have a rental car because I am the crazy person that will be doing 11 cities in 14 days!
If you want to do the Christmas Markets try to get down to Nurnberg.
Honestly...if I had the option of just sticking to one city I could easily spend a week in Berlin but I have a huge list of stuff that I want to do in Berlin!

Me too. I loved Berlin. It was likely my one and only trip. Since my H has been to Berlin so many times. I think I'll go on my own in the summer at some point. Berlin in February was freezing and a bit depressing. Christmas season would be nice.

There are cute towns along the Rhein, but I don't know that a Frankfurt/Dusseldorf/Heidelberg combination is worth it for just a few days. Frankfurt (mostly businesses/banks) and D-dorf (high-end shopping that you can get in the states for less money) aren't as touristy or interesting as other places.
The Nurnberg Christmas Market is, I think, the most famous. Erfurt's is nice. Here's a list of markets with descriptions: www.christmasmarkets.com/Germany.html.

We will be there the same time but my itinerary has me driving all over the damn country: Dresden-Erfurt-Dortmund-Koln-Bremen-Magdeburg-Leipzig-Berlin-Mannheim-Munich-Nurnberg. I dont get to Berlin until Dec 2nd!
Oh jeez...my list for Berlin....MUSEUMS MUSEUMS MUSEUMS! Spend the atfternoon doing a trabi-tour. Food. The zoo. The clubs. So sad that my trip only has me in Berlin for one night; I will just have to move there for a few months to make up for it!
