Good morning! Graduates this weekend were blndsnbrdr at 50 miles & myself.
Soon, I think we'll see more of you with fall marathons joining the post. If anyone would like to take over, speak up or just jump in next week. For today I thought I'd hang on.
What race and when?
Plan for the week?
Highlights?
Frustrations?
What mantras, thoughts, or songs help you power through the tough miles?
Tell us about your first race ever? (Distance, result, fun background info)

Edit --- was Kier of LifeinIowa [http://nicandkier.blogspot.com/] on this board at one point? I don't remember. Either way, she ran 50 miles this last weekend too, so if anyone remembers her and her blog [not as active as she used to be] she also rocked at life!

Ahhhh! I am beginning to really love this weekly post!
What race and when? Well...the 50 happened [recap in the works] and it wasn't too painful, so I'm jumping right back in -- Dirty 30 is happening May 31st, a hilly 50K trail race.
Plan for the week? Sit on my butt. Sorta. Will run Tuesday AM, Wednesday PM and then we're driving to WI and we'll see how running goes. I'll pack clothes to run, but won't stress about it.
Highlights? Holy crap guys, I ran 50 effing miles! And didn't cry. Or hate myself. Or even have lasting pain!
Frustrations? Nothing major, I'm riding the runner's high!
What mantras, thoughts, or songs help you power through the tough miles? During my race [and most training runs] pace isn't a factor I worry about thanks to the terrain of trails, so it's been a lot of "just move forward".
Tell us about your first race ever? (Distance, result, fun background info) My first race post-high school was April 26, 2008 in Wisconsin -- I ran the AMA Fun Run 5K. It snowed. I was under trained [had no idea what training was] and over dressed. But I crossed that finish line and almost immediately signed up for my second 5K.
I'd been a major planner of the race the previous year -- partly because if I was on the inside I could give my 20-year-old self a wrist band that said I could drink, only my name was on EVERY piece of paper the officials/cops had and they kept asking for me to check on stuff...so really, I didn't get to drink. I came back to run the next year simply because I wanted to make up for the missed out boozing the year before. The race was a 9am. The free beer started at 10am. Before the night was over I may have puked a time or three. Oops.
Congrats both Thom and blndrs! I've been really excited to hear how blndrs race went!
What race and when? Gov Cup 6/14 and Air Force Marathon 9/20
Plan for the week?An "easy" week considering my long run will be a half on Sunday. A few 5 milers, a 9 miler and a half I think is what I have on the schedule.
Highlights? Last week my 18mile run went sooooo much better than the last time I tried that distance. I felt better overall, and finished over an hour faster. It hurt so good
Frustrations? None
What mantras, thoughts, or songs help you power through the tough miles? I tell myself I know I can do it. Last marathon I had serious doubts about finishing during my long runs and after bombing my 18 miler back then. But I just remind myself I've done it once and I'm better prepared this time around!
Tell us about your first race ever? (Distance, result, fun background info) It was a 9k that I ran with 2 of my dogs. The whole reason I decided to do it, was because I could train with my dogs and I thought that would keep running fun. It ended up being a blast and we did again last year. We'd drive down a few hours away, stay in a hotel with the dogs, run the next morning and then enjoy the "pet expo" after. They didn't do it this year and I really miss doing all that again.
My epicly bad/funny siggy picture is from last year when we did that run.

I haven't finished reading, b/c I can't get past the part where you say 50 miles wasn't too painful. OMG. Congratulations! You are such a rock star.

Ok, read the rest now. So glad you had such a great experience. You are AMAZING!

Haha, thank you!
It really wasn't...but I walked pretty much anything that looked remotely uphill! Pace was definitely not a factor!
Congrats blndsnbrdr!! Being on your feet for 12+ hours is exhausting, so even if you did plenty of walking it's still amazing!
I don't remember if Kier used to be on here, but I do follow her blog some. I haven't seen anything about running on it lately, so that's amazing!
How was the weather? Did you avoid too much snow?
Blog-wise I think she's made a big transition away from running, but yea, she got her ultra status this weekend too! It was kind of awesome knowing I was running "with" people!
Weather was awesome! Between 35-60ish degrees, mostly overcast with some rain. Considering it could have been crazy hot or snowing the rain was welcome!
Snow didn't move in until Sunday morning -- I dressed up and headed outside to frolic in it a bit, but got distracted with errands, although I did successfully run across a parking lot, twice. Go legs!
Your weather got a little toasty, didn't it? It's weird to have the midwest experiencing "better" weather than CO!
