DD is behind the passenger seat, though now we have to change it to the center since they just passed a new law in this country requiring all baby seats to be placed in the middle. This makes me very mad since the attachments in our car are made for child seats to be placed on either side plus our middle seat is narrow and raised making it pretty unstable to put a child seat there in my opinion.
What if you have more than one baby seat?
For more than one, the law states that the bigger child is placed one one side and the smaller child in the middle seat still. It makes no sense at all (like many things here quite frankly). I have kept my seat where it is for now. If a cop pulls me over I will argue and demonstrate why I feel my child is safer where she is.
Neither of our cars has LATCH in the center and I was not adept at getting a good install with the belt for quite a while. When I had only on car seat it was in the passenger side. Now in my car I have one passenger side and one drivers side. In H's car one is drivers side and one is middle, all RF. We chose drivers side for H's car because his backseat has a 60/40 split and we wanted to be able to put the 40 side down if we needed too. Also, we can't open his passenger side door inside the garage, so it's easier to load the kids with the car seats on the drivers side.
I just played musical car seats this weekend since DS3 is getting too big for the bucket. I ended up taking the Radian that DS1 was using (in the middle) and installing it rear-facing on the passenger side. I have an angle adjuster on order because I can barely fit in the front passenger seat now...and I'm only 5'3"! I put our other radian FF in the center for DS2, and then put the Graco highback booster on the driver side for DS1. This has to be on the outside so we can move it to reach the buckle...it's a tight fit in my backseat!

Are you in the US? Is that a law here now?
No, this is in Costa Rica, where laws make no sense
We always did it in the center since one or both of us rode with her in the back (taxis, grandparents' cars, etc.) I didn't actually drive a car myself with DD in the back until she was FF in a convertible seat.
Passenger in both cars. I obsessed about this for a while, but our cars' manuals both recommended outboard (for LATCH) and then when we went to the police station for install they said they recommend passenger side. It has worked well, especially since I'm not strong and the infant seat already feels heavy at two months old.
In my car its behind the driver, in H's its behind the passenger so the driver does not have to adjust the seat. In my car though I found it too distracting behind the passenger side (tested it out both ways before he was born.)
