If I'm **really** relaxing, I get one of those buckets of margaritas that you add tequila to and stick in the freezer overnight. The next day, transfer the bucket to a cooler and roll to the beach.

What we call "Florida Drinks" (from our last FL vaca): Fill a pint glass with ice, add 1-2 shots Smirnoff Pineapple Vodka (plain vodka works too, you just need less Pineapple juice), add some Sprite (or other lemon lime soda), top off with pineapple juice. Refreshing and so good you don't realize you are drinking too much, too fast, until it's too late!

I was going to post basically this same idea. Delicious. Pineapple & Malibu is also delightfully beachy.
I also like pink grapefruit juice & vodka. Sometimes I like to muddle a few basil leaves into the juice, before adding vodka, ice, & shaking.
A beach bar here makes Gatorades. My favorite is mango. Mango vodka, water, and a splash of sour mix. Drinking & hydrating ftw!!!

I think you can't go wrong with either a mojito or a mint julep. The mint makes them so refreshing, but made properly, neither should be sickly sweet.
When we were in Florida in March, we bought boxed white wine. We then took the bag out of the box, put it in an ice bucket, and took it out to the pool with us. No more having to go inside to refresh our drinks. GENIUS.
I also love a high quality vodka, muddled with some lime & cucumber. You can add in club soda to cut the strength of the vodka a bit. Plus, the carbonation is refreshing.

Pro tip for drinks with mint: you can make simple syrup and steep mint in it for about 30 minutes to make mint syrup. It's perfect for the lazy lady's cocktail.

Oh, I love this tip. Thanks! I have a shit-ton of mint growing in my garden. I might make some to just keep on hand.

You can do it with just about any aromatic that you'd use in a cocktail. I generally have three simple syrups on hand - regular, mint, and ginger. I have been tempted to make other kinds, but I need more bottles. Since we drink mostly bourbon, I've thought about doing a blackberry syrup since that flavor works better in bourbon than most fruits. But for vodka or rum, I'm sure there are all manner of fruit syrups that would be good. I would rather have vodka plus homemade strawberry syrup and a twist of lime than any of those overly sweet flavored vodkas. But I really do not like my drinks to taste like candy bars.
Yesterday, I actually made a good, hand-muddled mint julelp. It was definitely better, BUT I like having the mint syrup on hand because then I don't have to plan my cocktail-drinking and make sure I have mint on hand (I have no garden).

That's how I am, too. I can usually only do one or two sweet drinks, and if they're syrupy sweet, I can't do them at all. I prefer tart, as evidenced by my grapefruit & lime faves.
I want to play around with flavoring vodka. I've flavored tequila before. For Christmas, my sister spent a month flavoring vodka with cranberries &limes, and put them in our stockings. That vodka straight, w/just a bit of club soda, and an extra squeeze of lime, was delicious.

The first things that come to mind are a mojito, margarita, or gin and tonic.
I also love French 75s - champagne, gin, lemon, and simple syrup (which is sugar water). I feel like they're classier, because they use champagne. Haha.

If we're doing a vacation rental (i.e. with a kitchen) I make a big batch of vodka slushies to keep on hand. Then just scoop out some slush, pour some 7up over the top and bam. Super yummy (and in a pinch it also tastes good right off of a spoon...not that I would know).
