Three new diagnoses for kid 3. That is in addition to his genetic change, Aspergers, apraxia, dysarthria. His geneticists said to see a neurologist for a Tourette's diagnosis and to let her know how he is doing in September but we are on route to have ADHD meds and a 1:1 in the classroom.
Bummer. I'm really sorry. Tics are tough. DS's ramp up when he's stressed or has had an infection. We just ignore them, but damn it is so, so hard,
Make sure whoever is managing his meds knows about the potential Tourettes. Stimulants aren't usually and option with tics as they can reveal tics of exacerbate them.

I'm so sorry, Marissa. Knowing gives you more options for managing his symptoms, of course, but it's always so hard to hear. (I joke with my husband that I'm going to stop taking the boys to doctors; that way they can't be diagnosed with anything else.)
I knew it was coming. Now to explain to others. I get calls weekly from the school about his cough and how they are concerned he is contagious. I wish people can be open and understanding about what and who he is. Unfortunately that isn't happening.

I'm so, so sorry.
DS sometimes has a vocal tic that more along the lines of throat clearing. It. makes. me. agitated. Even though I understand the mechanics of it.
Would it be possible to include a teacher training on Tourettes for his teachers/school? That might help them dial back on the parent teacher communication on this topic.
I'm sorry - that sounds rough and I'm really sorry his school isn't more understanding. All of this is hard enough without having to battle the school as well. You'd think they would know?
My DD2 has OCD & Tourette's...her tics are complex (motor, facial & vocal combined). Shes only 7 now & I know it'll get rougher as she gets older for a while. I'm sorry you have more to deal with. i hope everyone is understanding & cooperative.

That is terrible. I am so sorry. The school is calling you b/c of the coughs? Do they not understand? You must be so frustrated.
New school year, his IEP stated we'd have a meeting to discuss everything going in with him with everyone who comes in contact with him. I had to call our new director to get the meeting because the case manager felt she could relay the info. They pulled a teacher who is a Tourette's expert to be there and help of need be. That part is better. Now if only they would have a SLP for the building we'd be better.
The tics are really hard. for my son they are both verbal and motor and they definitely intensify when he is stressed. We can usually tell when something is going on at school with him just by his tics. and I'm wondering if he might have some OCD issues down the road too. It's so challenging and stressful as a parent. Hang in there!
