I'm going to bed shortly (I'm at least five hours a head of some of you) but will check back first thing in the morning...
So, I was going to go for a long run on the weekend. I asked my hubs if he wanted to take the bikes out Saturday morning. Yes, he did. He asked how far I wanted to go. I said 20-25 miles, max. He took us on a 35 mile route. But that was okay, I felt fine. I had friends coming so I didn't run on Saturday, besides, was a bit tired from the ride.
I didn't run on Sunday as I had a very mild hangover, then it started raining.
So I got up nice and early this morning and did 13.4 miles. About 10 miles in, my left hip started to ache. I managed to finish, but it doesn't feel great, even now.
I have a Half Marathon this Sunday... what should I do to this week to make it better? Anything you can all recommend? Just rest it? Heat pack? Ice pack? Physio?
I used to get awful hip pain when I pushed my distance past half marathon distance. I've found with a combination of foam rolling, stretching, icing and using KT tape on my hips, I don't get that awful pain anymore. Maybe trying some of those will help. Also when in doubt, it can't hurt to rest leading up to race day.
Thanks ladies, will try a combination of what you've suggested. My husband has a foam roller thingy, I'll have to locate it and YouTube how to use it (he's away).
I wanted to do a shorter run mid week (Wednesday/Thursday?) of 6.5 miles, but maybe I should rest instead. Hmmmm.
