I do watch and have liked this season a lot. I would like Yvan or Justin to win, as well. I like Michelle and her ideas, but I think the other two are much better.

I liked Justin all up until his pilot. His ideas are great - so off the wall, but still obtainable for the home cook but he kind of rushed through the jelly thing he made - I don't even know what the name of it was - he just assumed we knew the term.
Yvan has a great story, but I wouldn't watch his show.
Martie was just ok - I get anxious when I watch her though. With the southern accent, I would think I would be more relaxed but it just feels rushed.
Michelle always felt too ackward when doing camera recordings, but normal when talking with Bobby. But then her pilot was the one I liked the most which surprised me. Her dish seemed so easy and tasty that I added it to my meals for the week this week.

I want Justin to win. Yvan if not. Michelle is last in my book. I actually wanted Nikki over her for the pilots. Of all the POVs hers may have helped me the most because I am a girl that does NOT grill and all of the guys I know do so their wives barely get the chance. I did like Michelle's pilot though as well as Martie's. They were all pretty good! Amazing that Martie made it that far but in the end, she pulled it out. It felt like she started talking faster than ever in this episode for her promo and pilot! Was she trying to not run out of time like she had in the past?
Anyway, I will feel really sad for whichever guy doesn't win. I am SURE that one of them will. Best of luck in the future to the ladies.
I liked Michelle's pilot the best. Justin seemed like he was trying to be Alton Brown. He had the same tone, expression and script as Alton does. boring and not unique

I agree. Alton is fun and quirky, but I don't need someone else telling me about the science and history of food. Also, he chose to do an aspic as his "my generation" update? Aspics were popular in the 50's!

I liked Justin's pilot. I was just hoping he would do something a little more funky than a Caesar salad. I love Alton though. I really like Michelle's pilot too, but I don't think it would be something I would watch.
I'm rooting for Yvan or Michelle. The both just seem natural and easy to watch.
Justin I don't like at all. A year or two ago, I saw him on an episode of 24 Hour Restaurant Battle, and he was A JERK. He was partnered with his girlfriend, and he treated her like she was stupid, and had this holier than thou attitude that really rubbed me the wrong way, and made me not want to watch him on Food Network Star.

Although I haven't really been in to either of them before hand, I thought Yvan and Michelle had much better pilots than Martie and Justin. Which is a shame because I adore Alton - but both of them rub me the wrong way.
And DH visibly recoiled when Justin started talking about aspics. I went through an aspic phase a couple months ago and made a billion of them. DH is very over aspics.
I want Justin to win. Aspic is gross, but he's totally the best chef. Second Michelle. Third Yvan (his concept - family style - is just so boring and overdone) and I absolutely hate Martie! I dislike the whole Southern theme of Food Network day time right now, though, and can't stand Paula Deen. Martie is like Paula Junior.
I like the producer "teams" this season, but because they were playing on teams until basically a few weeks ago, I think the strongest people didn't necessarily make it to the top. Hence why Martie is still there. I was PISSED when Emily went home. I made an empty promise not to watch anymore. She needed on-camera work and coaching, but she was adorable and had an awesome concept. Retro Rad? Original, but there was so much you could do with it. I also loved Ippy.

I was also pissed when Emily went home. Really, I was pissed when Ed went home. I don't like the teams. You could tell they were working to keep them even (how else would Michelle still be here) and I completely agree that some good peoiple went home that otherwise wouldn't have.
Justin is weird looking. His dish was gross (chicken jello on hot lettuce? +o( ) and his episode was Alton Part II. I think he did deserve to be in the top and I think he has an interesting concept.
Every single week I thought Martie was going to go home, I have no idea why they love her so much. They seem to really want us to like her.
I like Yvan's concept, but was surprised by his pilot dish (canned cream corn inside mac n cheese with crouton topping? ?). I'd be okay if he won.

I can't believe Martie made it that far. I'm pleased that Justin won, but Michelle was my top pick. Her POV was great... like Ina with an edge. Yvan killed it on the pilot--he was amazing. But it took him way too long to stand out.
This last episode makes me think Ippy has some rage issues behind that aloha vibe.
He was the last person I wanted to win. The red lipstick kills me. KILLS me. I also think his concept is rather strange. Too strange for the everyday, home cook.

Yes, I was thinking that during some of his intense stare downs, especially when one of the judgest (Bob I think) was saying he had thought Eric should have stayed over Ippy near the beginning - that stare down was lethal!

I noticed during the finale his lips didn't seem as red - sort of like he was more tanned so less pale face and red lips? But his shirt last night was too much for me - silky western wear? Where do you get such things?!
Did they say when his show will air? Typically the following weekend I think. I'm still enjoying The Sandwich King's show.

With the new format where viewers vote, it will probably be several weeks before his show airs. (It is usually the next Sunday.) They won't have had time to develop a show and film a few episodes by then. We'll see what this new format does to ratings... will people remember him in a few weeks?

They've done studies, and a huge, huge majority of viewers never attempt the recipes they see on the procedural cooking shows, anyway. So it really is about who people like to watch, not the ease of their dishes.
At the end of the finale, they said something about "the person who will have their own show on Food Network this fall," so I'm assuming September. I know they usually like to start ASAP because they have the press and built-in audience of the show working for them, but we'll see how it goes.
Even though is was 'different' this season with the mentors and teams, and it was kinda (ok, maybe not *too* much) nice to have a little bit of a change just to keep it lively. But I think it also bit them in the ass. I hope they go back to the free-for-all kind of competition next season.
I'm just glad Martie didn't win. Did anyone else notice she kept saying things like 'Martie's party' or something along those lines?? Redsounded way too much with Aarti Party to me. I hate Aarti's show, btw. She just doesn't have that 'it' factor that I want to watch.
Anyway, it'll be interesting to see what Justin's show will be like. I have a feeling he's really going to try to mold into being Alton's little brother. I love me some Alton, but there's only room for one of him, and Justin can't hack it in comparison.

Ah - ok I didn't think about the voting affecting the timing of the first show. Thanks.
Martie's Party - yes, too close to Aarti's Party (I don't care for it either).
I did see on an "all star" edition of Chopped that Jeffrey Saad the "ingredient smuggler" runner- up from season 5 (Melissa d'Arabian won) has his own show on Cooking Network, looks like a travel show. As well as Kelsey from season 4 (Aaron McCargo Jr won) has a show I like on Cooking Network - simple show that I acutally use recipes from "Kelsey's Essentials".
I wouldn't be surprised if we saw Yvan with a show on Cooking Channel, or maybe even Nikki. Like PP mentioned some of the Food Network star losers did go on to have their own shows.
