and it annoys me that he doesn't want to do anything.
we've been going out for years for every single one of our friends bdays, etc...h and i never do much for our birthdays..but 30 is the exception i think...he doesn't seem to think so.
i suggested bbq at home, casual dinner out, happy hour...not interested in any.
this is half vent, half request for suggestion of other very low key things.
Yeah that was my H for his 30th last year. We ended up tagging on the celebration to a friends halloween party and it worked.
I think home bbq could be super fun except for the prep/cleanup that needs to be done. What about at a nearby park? Planning activities, ie cornhole, bocce etc.

Is it sad that my H will be turning 40 next year? Haha.
Anyway, yeah, just do a birthday thing anyway. Send the kids to your ILs and do something low key at the house. I like the idea of karaoke or board game night - something simple. And couple it with a BBQ or something that guests can bring sides/fixings to help out. And don't forget wine/beer! He'll appreciate that you actually did something later on.
