Please reassure me or tell me to suck it up. My right outer hip has been sore since my long run on Saturday. It hurt throughout my run and afterwards so much so that it was hard to walk fast. I took Sunday off and it felt better no longer hurt when walking. I ran 5 miles yesterday and it was sore for the first few miles, then hurt a little less the next few miles. It's a little sore today when walking.
I'm going through an internal debate whether I should skip my 6-mile run tonight and the next few days until it heals.
Don't throw things, but I never really get injured and I've never had pain lasting through my entire run. So this is all new to me. It feels so wrong to skip a run, but it's probably for the best.
I think it's time for me to buy a foam roller. Any good recs where to get one?
Should I rest tonight and the next few days to heal this up?
Yes, rest. My Achilles was acting up the weeks before my race. I skipped a few runs, babied it (ice, foam roll the calf/foot, NSAIDS) and rested it as much as I could. It didn't bother me at all during my race and I also raced really well.
Definitely rest! I should have rested today. My left hamstring has been so unbelievably tight and sore the last 2 days, but I pushed through my 9 miles today anyways. I have a half this weekend so I think rest/ice/foam rolling/etc will be all I'll do for a few days and see how it feels.
You sound like me! I hate taking a rest day but trust me... it will cause more harm than good (hence my long recovery). Take a few days and take care/spoil yourself then get back out there!
I agree with gt7301b. It it's sore, try and work through it. If it is a sharp pain it needs to be rested. An RN gave me that advice in regards to my shoulder awhile back. Makes sense.
I like using a foam roller and then one of these bad boys every so often...
now is not the time to be pushing it. REST. it takes weeks to lose your endurance. a couple of days won't matter.
it's better that you're figuring this out now and not at week 14 of 18.
my foam roller came from amazon. get the high density foam and get the long one. don't cheap out on the short low density roller or you'll be replacing it in a couple of months with the high density version.
maybe get a theraband too while you're ordering things from amazon so you can start doing some hip/pelvic floor stregthening at home.

Eeeep that's huge! Sorry.
What is that amazing looking thing?! It looks like my beloved rumble roller on a stick (aka heaven!)
