Have you ever heard that sleeping with a bar of soap (specifically SafeGuard) will prevent leg cramps in the night? I was telling my mom on Sunday how I had a HORRIBLE cramp in my calf and how it is still sore and my parents and aunt/uncle all SWORE by sleeping with a bar of soap under the sheets.
H has leg pain at night all the time so they sent us home with a bar of SafeGuard. It's currently under out fitted sheet. lol. I feel silly using it but my parent's aren't ones do follow "old wive's tales". Yet my father will search every convenience store for a bar if he forgets to pack his when he goes away. I figured it couldn't hurt anything and besides, it smells nice. lol.
So if anyone is dealing with those nasty charlie horses in the night - try some soap. I haven't had another one since, but that's not really scientifically sound evidence.

YES and it also helps with restless legs. I get RLS horribly when pregnant and have been sleeping with Irish Spring under my fitted sheet since about 12 weeks. I was willing to try anything, it literally will make you crazy. I do believe it helps. I can't even sit on the couch at night to watch TV anymore, but laying in bed with the soap is bearable. You do have to replace it about every 3-4 weeks. Everyone thinks I am crazy when I tell them about this but whatever works!

My grandma used to swear by it, but I had totally forgotten about it. Luckily I've only had one leg cramp so far, but if they get worse I'll go out and get some!
Never heard of this, either. Report back on how things work out for you.
I've had crazy middle-of-the-night leg cramps this pregnancy. What's saved me is elevating my hips at night (sleeping with pillows wedged between my knees and now sleeping with a Snoogle).
Well, no more cramps for me but I can't say it's because of the soap or not. Maybe I just haven' had another one.
My dad was telling me he hadn't had cramps for years then one night got one. He looked for the soap and it had fallen off the bed to the floor from under the sheet that night. So, maybe some proof? Or he was just really dehydrated that day...
