This is totally a selfish post My (Spinning) studio is moving to a larger location in a few weeks and we just signed a licensing agreement with TRX. 4 of us are getting certified next month. I also employ two yoga instructors and would like to add that in as well. We also have the option of working out on the roof - woohoo!
Have any of you seen this combo in local studios? Thoughts?
From my experience, these 3 things can really compliment each other without competing with each other.
At my gym, you tend to see the same people in these three classes (as opposed to the Zumba/Pilates class/weightlifting crowd)-- they seem complement each other nicely and attract the same type of patrons.
Your studio sounds amazing! Are you opening in CA locations soon? I would be much more inclined to join a spinning studio that had these added options.
That's really exciting sitnspin! Would you have the ability to offer 1 free yoga session to each gym member to celebrate the first month at your new facility? Or some type of a similar promotion?
I do both a cycling class and yoga and think they are very complementary (and running is even my main sport!).

I actually just had a bunch of "free class" cards printed up for our big opening. Thanks!

Many of the girls in my cycle class (its not Spinning accredited) also do TRX. We have both in our gym, but the space for TRX sucks, it's open to the rest of the gym, and you get a lot of random gym goers walking through.
Most of them go to TRX at a different gym that has TRX, Bootcamp and Yoga. They have online reservations for the day's classes, so you don't have to call, and you know how many spaces are left just by logging on. So that's pretty awesome. You can pay on line, order packages etc. on line as well.
My gym also has Yoga, which the girls don't really seem to take advantage of as much as TRX and cycle. I've talked with them about it and most of them like the idea of yoga, but don't like the yoga "mumbo jumbo and lingo". They felt left behind in some of the classes and that not enough attention was paid to them, making sure their form was correct. That part is obviously probably very instructor specific, but I think that they were coming off of TRX where you get tons of instruction and one on one attention, so the different was notable.
I personally don't do Yoga because I just don't have the time for any additional classes. I like it, I think it would be a great compliment to my other classes and work outs. I just can't find the time to fit it in.
Not quite the same, but at the beginning of the year my yoga studio expanded into a new space and added crossfit and spin. They offered a promotion at the beginning to change yoga-only memberships to cover all three classes and lock in that rate forever, which I think helped convert some of us and fill up the new offerings.
However, it does seem like the crossfit and spin classes still aren't very full compared to the yoga classes. I know for me, that's partly just because I'm intimidated to try something new, as silly as that sounds. I love that I have options, though, and I'm hopeful I'll get over my fears soon!
I think anything you can do to get people to try the new offerings and hopefully hook them in will help- so free classes, or a special pass for all three, etc. You just need to get enough people to try it out so that they spread the word, because the three do compliment each other well I think.
Good luck! You'd have me hooked just with the exercising on the roof part, that's awesome!
Oh, one other thing I wish my studio did more of was events or workshops that help to build community and give you a chance to know other people. So maybe some special events to get people in the door would help?

Great! We also have primarily online sign ups so that your spot is guaranteed.

Thanks for the insight! We do donation classes every week and participate in a ton of community events already.
A studio near me offers spin and yoga and its crazy popular. I'm trying to get in there to teach yoga! Good luck it'll be great for you!
On a whim I just looked into a 200 hour yoga training. I figured as the owner, it would be helpful. $3500!!! Holy cow!
Yeah it's expensive. My 200 was $2400. Yikes! But talk to the studio some offer deep discounts to other fitness professionals or offer exchanges. Free spin for yiga training. That's how one girl in my training did it. She's a massage therapist and traded massages for her tuition.

That is a great idea, thanks! I am leaving next Friday for Spinning Master Instructor camp, so it may have to wait a bit.

I love the addition of TRX and yoga. You have a complete one-stop for everyone with those offerings.
That was my thought. I know that personally, I go to about 4 or 5 places for my workouts, so why not combine a few? I am so excited to announce this to my clients!!
That's awesome! A studio near my house also offers all three and they seem to be doing great...well enough to open another location on the other side of town at least (in addition to the current one) In addition to the separate classes they offer Spin/TRX and yoga/TRX where half the class is TRX then the last half is either yoga or spin, I love it. If you'd like I can PM you the website so you can get an idea of how its set up, just let me know !
I would love something like that, especially if you offered discounted rates for more then one class type. Have you considered doing that? Or will 1 monthly fee cover everything?
Love spin and love TRX. My spin teacher actually does a class that incorporates both (I haven't been able to take it yet bc it's offered when I'm at work.)
