I think they are playing it both ways with Red. Either he's Lizzy's father OR he's the one that set the fire, killer her dad, and hulled her out.
The hand thing wasn't that big of a deal. They said it the same because that's the syntax of the language. (Weren't all the prisoners from the same place?) At least that was the explanation and I'll take it.
I'm glad that Tom is alive. He's a million times more interesting as a bad guy.

And hotter that way too. Sorry, when we're grasping for straws, good looks is something. I really do have a love/hate relationship with this show.
OP--didn't Red deny the fact he was Lizzie's father? I don't think he'd lie about that. My guess was that Lizzie's real dad, her adopted dad, and maybe Red were all partners at one point. Red was in the same fire as Lizzie's dad and due to "something" Red couldn't save the dad but his dying request was to have Red promise to protect and make sure Lizzie was properly taken care of. That would explain Red's burns, and the reason he's invested so much in protecting her, at least. And maybe the third partner, her adopted dad had said to them "I want out" so caring for a little girl would be the perfect "excuse" or even alibi to get him out of the black market business. My guess is that Lizzie's real father (or Red, I would accept either) was the one that killed Berlin's daughter, which explains why he's out for Lizzie and everyone SHE cares about now. Does that sound Hollywood feasible?
However, the whole "he's alive" "no, he's definitely NOT alive" thing, along with her father's real name being important remain things I don't fully understand.

I think it is still likely that Red is her father. He has lied to her before about things (didn't he originally say he didn't kill Sam/her dad?) to protect her/about things she is better off not knowing (in his mind anyway). Maybe he truly doesn't want her to know that he is her daughter.
Saying that, I think Tom knows who her father is and I am not sure why he just doesn't say 'Red is your father'.
Also, wasn't she, like, 6 when the whole fire thing happened why does she not remember his name? Or am off on the age?
When he got in her car and said 'hi babe' and then looked at her in the dead stare, I thought 'well hello to you too'. Yum.
I waver between thinking Red being her dad is too obvious and having no idea at all.
This is how I feel too. Part of me thinks he can't be her dad because it would be to obvious (and boring), but another part thinks unfortunately the story line might not be creative enough to have another option.

I'm just glad this didn't get cancelled. Hopefully some of the kinks work out in season 2.
(I stand by my previous comment that Liz & Don will eventually be a couple, but in some weird drawn out soapy way)
Oh, totally. Thus far, I don't think the writers have shown they are cleaver enough to avoid this unavoidable story line. Both around the same age, both relatively attractive. It's only a matter of time. One can always hope they avoid it as long as possible (and keep it OUT of the story) but I don't see this show sticking around nearly as long, as say, the X-Files to have enough time to avoid the relationship, and THEN develop one. I think this will be closer to the textbook "we need a romantic story line stat to keep this show interesting!"
Although, theoretically, hasn't Lizzie "resigned" from the task force now? I guess we have that to consider for next season?

When the show started, they talked about Red leaving behind a wife and daughter. I think there is no way that Lizzie is that daughter because the government would have kept an eye on those two, waiting for Red to contact them. And I'm not sure I'd buy that Red was maintaining two families when he disappeared.
I like the idea that he had a partner and saved the daughter for him.
James Spader continues to be the only reason to watch this show. He could be reading a grocery list and I'd find it riveting. The show improves 1000% when he is onscreen.

I agree, 100%. He's absolutely the reason why I event started watching and he's the only reason I suffer through.
