If you don't go read, let me leave you with my top tip I learned today:
If you ever find yourself in an open air car park with enough time for a doze, MOVE YOURSELF TO THE PASSENGER SIDE. Nothing scares the absolute shit out of yourself better than waking up with the steering wheel in your face and the rear lights of a car 2 foot from your front end. Just for a split second, I totally thought I had fallen asleep at the wheel. I can now vividly imagine what it’s like to be defibrillated.
Thanks everyone! It was really only the last few miles that sucked, so I'm trying to focus on the miles before that where I was quite okay. I was underprepared, undertrained and under rested for it, so it's my fault for still going for it. I am now looking for my next race. Trick is, I'm busy over the summer and it's warmer now. Considering a fall half. Maybe Sweden? Who knows. Stay tuned!
I'm sorry the day didn't go as you hoped. At one point or another, we've all been there, and we can sympathize. Be kind to yourself, you've had a hell of a time lately. You'll kill the next one!!
@cheshire, One thing I need to know. What is Vegemite ? I found an .au website for it, so now I'm really curious if you eat this brown stuff out of a jar everyday?? Or it is this a reference to something else I've entirely missed?
BTW, under 2 hours is still such a solid 1/2 time. I can't believe I failed to mention that in my previous comment. I know it wasn't what you hoped, but it definitely doesn't suggest you fell apart. Keep bring awesome & feel better!

Vegemite is a spread normally put on toast. It's a made from a yeast extract rich in vitamin B, with a very strong savoury taste, hard to describe. British people have Marmite which is quite similar. Generally speaking, my American friends who have tried it are utterly repulsed by it. It's something that I guess you grow up with. Trying it for the first time as an adult would be a shock. Thanks re: half mara time, I know that with more training and better weather it would have been a great chance of a PR, so I'm determined to give it another go next year. Am looking at locking in the Stockholm (Sweden) half soon. It's in September which should be cool enough though my training will force me to keep running in the summer.
ugh, I'm sorry for your crappy race. I'm not sorry for your two years, though. My mom died of cervical cancer, as did her mom, so it's something that I love to hear people kick the shit out of.

However, what a lovely place to run. I'm jealous.
I'm so sorry your mum and gran died from it, hugs. My own mother had it as well. I'm sure you get checked regularly though, right?
Yes, Chester is gorgeous and is I suppose what you'd call the 'capital' of Cheshire, which is where I live. I feel lucky to live here sometimes.
@cheshire - thanks for the Vegemite info. I'm intrigued! It does sound like an acquired taste though.
Happy training this summer. I think with cooler weather you will smash your PR this fall. (Nothing does me in like heat.)
Edit: I am also happy for your two years.
Thanks thom! I'm hopeful that the next half will be all killer, no filler I have got my eye firmly on Sweden right now. I think I'm going to make a plan to run Europe. Specifically the scandinavian and nordics
If you ever make it over here, I'll let you try some Vegemite - you are right, acquired taste, but you never know, I do have one US friend that loved it immediately.
