I've actually lost this one before, back in HS, I jammed into a door jam. It hurt like a bitch.
In my experience, you will. I don't have this experience as a runner though! So maybe the running gods will spare you! My experience was walking into the tire of my uncle's 4 wheeler. Stupid Sam Adams. He distracted me and I didn't know where I was going.
Just let it be. When mine started lifting off the nail bed, I just kind of peeled it off. What was underneath had kind of calloused over. It didn't hurt at all. And it took about two months for the nail to fully grow back.

Just in time for summer!
It's not loose yet or anything. Just.... dark. I'll paint it for now.
Yep, if plan to lose it. It might just detach without actually coming off, though, depending how bad the damage is below the cuticle. You have to be careful not to catch it on anything during that phase.
I don't even know where to post an intro here! I was on TK/TN/TB since 2003, mostly local boards. I was m_and_m.
"I speak without reservation from what I know and who I am. I do so with the understanding that all people should have the right to offer their voice to the chorus whether the result is harmony or dissonance. The worldsong is a colorless dirge without the differences that distinguish us, and it is that difference that should be celebrated not condemned." -Ani Difranco
I'm a novice runner, what about running makes toenails fall off? I really would like to keep all of mine lol
Keep them trimmed short, wear the right shoes, and prayer. But it's something a lot of runners experience especially when you start to increase distance.

You actually might not. My one nail turned black after my full but never actually fell off. I kind of wished it would have because it's still a jacked up mess 7 months later.
I've only had one black toe nail, and it didn't come off, it just grew out. Now blisters under the nails, I've had a shitload of those, and they almost always come off. No shoe style, size, or prayer saves them....though they only pop up after some halves, and all fulls.

Yeah this happened during the half for sure. It was tender immediately afterwards. Oh well!

yup, it's a gonner. Mine just fell off earlier this week as a result of one of my long runs before the half (for reference, it was on a long run, hot chocolate 15K, that was about a month before the half). I had a pedicure a week or so before the half and at that point, the nail was not separated from the nail bed. I was able to clip it down to no nail just the other day.
So you might have the nail for about a month or so before it deadens underneath. This is my 3rd lost toenail.
