I ran a local half this morning. The weather was gorgeous at the start, but clouds rolled in part way through. Considering there was a chance for storms all day, I can't complain because we didn't even get rain.
It was a super hilly course, like most in this state. I felt good for the first half. I was even the lead female (yay for small races!) all the way up until mile 8. Then I started hurting. Damn hills. I got passed several people and lost that lead. But I was a lead! That's never happened so I'm proud of myself. I was worried maybe I went out too fast too early, but my paces were like normal, not too fast. Not sure what happened still.
I hurt pretty much from mile 8 on. Had a few moments where I questioned why I thought this was fun. lol Somehow I managed to pull out a good time, finished 2:06 and tied my current PR. So I'll take it
My H took a few pictures, I only look like I'm not dying in these 2 though. Ha

Well my race was Saturday but I'll add my recap here
A very small, not super well organized 5k - although it was chip time, there was no timing mat at the start which I didn't realize until I ran over the start line. If I had realized that I would have paid more attention to my gun time.
I ran the whole thing, with the exception of a 5 second walk through the water stop, so I'm super proud of myself. At my first 5k on 3/16 I couldn't even make it to mile 1 without walking. In my 6k three weeks ago I didn't make it to he two mile marker. I finished a smidge under 35 minutes which is my fastest pace so far. I think I'm finally starting to come to terms with the fact that mile 1 sucks no matter what.
Now my goal is to speed up!
And a big thanks to all the ladies here for being such an inspiration!

I did a 10K yesterday and have a new PR! I was really surprised because it was much hillier than I thought and I was coming off an injury so really I just wanted to finish it without pain. 56:46 is my new PR (last was August 2013, 58:25). Very happy about it but will also be taking some time off of running. I'm putting too much pressure on myself to keep doing better instead of having fun, so I'm going to change focus for awhile.
I used to post here more often last summer when I was pseudo training for a half marathon (and losing two toenails in the process!). I ran my school's annual 5K this weekend for the second time. It's a relatively flat course, with one killer hill at mile 2. My first time running I finished in 36:16. This time I finished in 29:08. Over 7 minutes off my previous time! Needless to say I was pretty pumped, and have now been bitten by the racing bug. Looking for a real half to train for now!
I did a hilly, technical trail 10k yesterday. I'm Debbie Downer right now, but I'll just say that my pregnancy did not work out, and while I should be 8+ weeks pregnant, I'm waiting to miscarry. I wanted to run this because it was my first race when I started running last year, and I've been on exercise restriction the past few weeks and will be coming up.
It was kind of a nightmare. But, I finished, when I seriously considered DNF. I finished in 1:05, so improved from last year's 1:13. I didn't feel terrible after realizing that I was still in the top 1/4 for my age range, and a fast lady from running group only finished in 57 min, but damn. That sucked.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.

Many hugs to you! So sorry about the pregnancy and tough run, but way to hang in there and improve by so much.

I ran my first half yesterday. It was a flat course and the weather was perfect. My original goal was to finish in under 2:00 and I was pretty confident going in that I would be able to do that. My dream goal was to finish in under 1:50 and I came so close with 1:50:10. I left it all out there though and it gives me something to work towards.
Congrats @g22; you look great!! That is a small, lonely looking course. But, it also looks kind of like where I run everyday.
Were you near many other runners, or did you have to pace it mostly alone?
It was a super small race. They had a 10k and 5k also. But when they broke away from the halfers, it was probably the smallest race I've done. I pretty much paced myself and was hardly near people most of the run.
Its not as desolate as it looks at the finish line. My H was standing perfectly to where he got none often post race stuff going on to the left of me there. But the course itself, very desolate. lol

Congrats to the other racers this weekend!
Damn! THat is an awesome first half time! Congrats!
I just found out I placed first in my age group yesterday! I left pretty much right away, it was such a small race I didn't even think there would be age group awards. A friend of our got second overall and stuck around for the awards, and he picked up my award for me! This pretty much made my day today!
