What marathon are you doing? *gulp* Baltimore. My first. Officially, training starts June 16.
How do you plan to wrangle the wrath of the summer heat during training? Weekday workouts after work on the treadmill. Eaaaarly weekend mornings.
When, if this is not your first marathon rodeo, do you start really "feeling it" in your training cycle? I guess we will see?
Where do you buy the majority of your marathon training gear (shoes, fuel, etc)? Amazon
Who is your biggest fan? My H. He is training for (and running with me!) for Baltimore, even though running is definitely 'my' thing, not his.
Why does the siren call of the Boylston Street finish line in Boston lure so many of us in? Tell us about something that drives you to run your best marathon. Training for races in general keeps me running, which keeps me healthy and sane. Despite race fees and all the gear, for me running is definitely 'cheaper than therapy'.
What marathon are you doing? Gov Cup 6/14 and Air Force Marathon 9/20
How do you plan to wrangle the wrath of the summer heat during training? I actually love running in the summer. For the most part it doesn't get too blazing hot here. But when it is, I go earlier in the day, slather on sunscreen, and hydrate a lot.
When, if this is not your first marathon rodeo, do you start really "feeling it" in your training cycle? Right around now, about 4 weeks out from the race. Shit is getting real (hello 20mile training run later this week) and it starts sinking in I'm about to do this again. But at least I know what I'm getting myself into this time around
Where do you buy the majority of your marathon training gear (shoes, fuel, etc)? A variety of places. I like hitting up Kohls/Marshell's summer/winter clearance racks for new clothing. Shoes-depends on where is cheapest once I figure out what shoe I want. I'm still experimenting with fuel so I've gotten it several places. Once I figure out what I like, I'll probably get it in bulk online or something.
Who is your biggest fan? My mom. She is a runner too, training for her first marathon this fall. We talk all things running and are each other's biggest cheerleaders/peer pressure. lol
Why does the siren call of the Boylston Street finish line in Boston lure so many of us in? Tell us about something that drives you to run your best marathon. With any race, I love seeing what my body can do and how far I've come from the first day I went for a run. Boston is just one of those things that I'd love to see if I can do.
Okay, is this the only week out of the entire year that we have no one training for the 26.2? Cray.
I think we're in a weird lull right now, where people are done with or tapering for the spring fulls, but most fall plans (except for very early fall races,) haven't started quite yet. I join you all July 21.
What marathon are you doing? Andy Payne Marathon, ~Sept 14; 24 the Hard Way Ultra, Oct 25
How do you plan to wrangle the wrath of the summer heat during training? I'll probably only do long runs outside. I'll start very early, probably close to 6am (as soon as it is light enough to see, so whatever time that is). After mid-June or so, I will carry a 4 bottle fuel belt regardless of how far I'm running. I've found that pouring water on my head and down my back helps me stay cool.
When, if this is not your first marathon rodeo, do you start really "feeling it" in your training cycle? If you mean when does it hit me that I'm training for a race, then that's when the long runs hit 12-14 miles. If you mean feeling the strain of training, that's when it peaks with the 18 and 20 mile long runs for me. I'm going to start back to back long runs in June, so I'm pretty sure I'll hit that strain a little sooner.
Where do you buy the majority of your marathon training gear (shoes, fuel, etc)? When I have to switch to a new shoe model, I'll go to the LRS. For a year or so after that, I'll try to find my shoes on clearance online. I tend to buy fuel at Academy or the LBS.
Who is your biggest fan? I'm not sure. DH doesn't really care much about my running, although he'll occasionally text me a "good job" or "keep it up" while I'm out on my long runs. I guess my mom? She's never seen me race though, just pics.
Why does the siren call of the Boylston Street finish line in Boston lure so many of us in? Tell us about something that drives you to run your best marathon. I like to see measurable improvement, and time is a good way to see that. So I want PRs. I have to be careful though, because a bad day of running or cycling can screw with my head fairly easily. I have to sit back and remind myself of what I have accomplished sometimes.
I'm a day late and a week early, but I'll play! My training cycle starts next week.
What marathon are you doing? Quad Cities
How do you plan to wrangle the wrath of the summer heat during training? Right now its hard to imagine... its been such a cold winter/spring... I am almost welcoming the heat. I will be getting up super early for long runs, hydrating a lot, and thats about it.
When, if this is not your first marathon rodeo, do you start really "feeling it" in your training cycle? Usually about 2/3 through. Long enough that I'm in the thick of it, but short enough that there still isn't a true light at the end of the tunnel yet.
Where do you buy the majority of your marathon training gear (shoes, fuel, etc)? Running warehouse
Who is your biggest fan? My grandpa. He always wanted to run a marathon (he started running in his 40s and kept it up until his mid-60s when my grandma got sick and she couldn't do it anymore). I think he is living a little vicariously through me, and its freaking adorable. He gets so excited to hear about my training/racing!
Why does the siren call of the Boylston Street finish line in Boston lure so many of us in? Tell us about something that drives you to run your best marathon. I am just competitive with myself, and constantly want to do better than the last time. Boston is that next step for me.

I'll play...with a race I impulse signed up for...
What marathon are you doing? Up next is the Dirty 30 50K on May 31st
How do you plan to wrangle the wrath of the summer heat during training? I'm trying not to think about it, but I'm going to have to change up my early AM run then directly to work routine -- I was a sweaty mess this AM! But I'll have to stick with the early AM runs to keep from frying!
When, if this is not your first marathon rodeo, do you start really "feeling it" in your training cycle? Early on, assuming you're referring to the pressure to be awesome...so I very loosely create training plans to keep the pressure low. So far, it's worked for me and gives me the freedom to take a completely down weekend or week if my body needs it. I may never get crazy fast times doing this, but my body will appreciate it!
Where do you buy the majority of your marathon training gear (shoes, fuel, etc)? Usually online -- runningwarehouse.com, theclymb.com, sierratradingpost.com, etc. -- although I do try to be loyal to my local running store that I run with if it makes sense.
Who is your biggest fan? uh, I don't know? My husband is a huge supporter and I know my mom supports it, though she won't spectate long distance races because I make her too nervous.
Why does the siren call of the Boylston Street finish line in Boston lure so many of us in? Tell us about something that drives you to run your best marathon. I will never understand Boston...although I'd like to say I BQ'ed I'll never run it. Just wanting to prove that the time I dumped into training was worth it is really important to me!
What marathon are you doing? Potomac River Run Marathon 11/16
How do you plan to wrangle the wrath of the summer heat during training? Ugh, not looking forward to it. I'm going to adjust my telework schedule and run early or late
When, if this is not your first marathon rodeo, do you start really "feeling it" in your training cycle? When the distances start getting above 17 miles or so.
Where do you buy the majority of your marathon training gear (shoes, fuel, etc)?Amazon or runningwarehouse.com
Who is your biggest fan? H, I guess. He watches the kids when I run. I feel bad since my runs definitely take up a lot of family time. Also, he puts DS down every night which is quite the process, while I get to run. I put DD down but she is easy peasy.
Tell us about something that drives you to run your best marathon.Qualifying for Boston really is driving me at the moment. I'm competitive and it's my hill to climb. I think about it on my long runs sometimes and I find myself running faster at the thought. My H is from Maine originally so he's really excited at the idea of me running it.
