I will be 38 weeks on Wednesday. I went to my weekly doctor appointment today, and I still have not started dilating. A big fat nothing. Not even 1 cm. This is my first, and the doctor said it is not out of the norm for first time moms. Help me feel better. When did you start dilating with your first, and when did you have your first?
That's why I never got checked. I have no idea. I delivered spontaneously on my due date.
Average FTM is 10 days over 40 weeks for spontaneous labour, though. So I would prepare mentally for that and be pleasantly surprised if it happens sooner.

Ditto token, i have no idea. I was not checked until I was in active labor and at the hospital. DD was born at 38w 4d. She came on her own, no induction.

No idea...I never got checked. I was induced at 39w3d. I will say though, with my second I was not dilated at all and locked up like fort knox at my 38w appt...I delivered spontaneously a week later.
I agree its a bit early to be stressing....let that little one bake just a tad longer
I was barely a fingertip at (wait for it!) 41 w 2 d. Fun times.
Noone was more shocked than I was when I went into labor spontaneously a little more than 12 hours later, dilated relatively quickly and was holding a baby in my arms less than a day after being locked up tight.
I was a 1 at 36 and 37 w. I moved up to 1.5cm at 38w and was 70% effaced on a Thursday. Saturday at 1am my water broke. I have no idea what I was when admitted to the hospital.
When they induced me at 37.5 weeks for pre-e. I was 0cm, 0% effaced, and head not engaged when the induction started. DS was born (vaginally) 20 hours later.
W/ DD1 when I was induced for BP reasons at 40w5d I was 0cm, 0%, etc. Nothing. W/ DD2, I have no idea. I went into labor spontaneously at 39w3d and the first time I was checked (2 hours later) I was 5cm. No clue what it was like before that.
I'm a big fan of not getting checked until actual labor. There's really no point, it doesn't indicate when labor will start and it seems to only serve as a source of stress.
I was induced just before 38 weeks and was not dilated at all. The midwife used a foley catheter to manually dilate me after 2 days of induction meds and I had da on the 4th day. It may have gone faster but they turned meds off at night to sleep.
With my first DS I was 1 cm and 90% effaced at 36 weeks. My OB told me at every appointment that she didnt expect me to be pregnant for much longer. I was induced at 41 weeks.
With my second DS I was 0% effaced and fingertip at 38 weeks. My water broke at 39 weeks and by the time I got to the hospital an hour later I was 3 cm and 70% effaced. In other words, I don't think it matters at all.

I think I was checked at 38w and was 1.5ish and 50% effaced. At my 40 check I was 2cm and 80% iirc. I had a membrane sweep then. I went into labor at 5pm at 40w3d and baby was born 12 hours later. It sucked going past my due date, but I was mentally preparing to go over. Labor and delivery went so well, and I'm glad I didn't have to be induced. GL!!
