Trust me, being 38wks and NOT dialated is a good thing! You don't want baby to come early, he/she needs to cook the whole 40 weeks. Those last few weeks are crucial for lung development. I'm a FTM, I was 2 cm dialated at 35 weeks, then went into out-of-the-blue pre-term labor at 36 weeks. Baby stayed put thank goodness, but I was 6cm dialated and 80% effaced for the rest of my pregnancy. Went into pre-term labor AGAIN at 38 weeks, and delivered two weeks later (the day before my due date) after my water broke on its own.
I wasn't checked until my water broke (at 38 weeks) and then I was only dilated 1-2 cm for almost 24 hours until contractions started. I went from 2-10 cm in 4 hours.

I wasn't dialated when I went in at 38 weeks for false labor. Then, at 39 weeks I went in after 12 hours of contractions & was 5cm dialated. He arrived late that night.
Thanks ladies!! I know everybody is different, but it makes me feel better to see that there are many of you that did not have much progression until you were closer to your due dates. I have a feeling she will keep cooking and she will come right around her due date on August 1. Thanks again!!

I was 2cm, very thin cervix, and 0 station at 36w. I delivered at 38w. I wouldn't stress too much about not being dilated; it's not a good indication of when you'll go into labor. Hang in there and good luck!

I was 3-4 cm dilated by 34 weeks, and stayed that way until I delivered DD on her due date. And even then, she was only born because I ended up being induced due to needing a contraction stress test. On her own, she'd have come who knows when, but definitely after my EDD since I wasn't in labor on my own at that point.
Basically, being dilated doesn't mean a thing and neither does not being dilated. You can go from 0 - 10 pretty quickly, whenever baby is ready!
