When school is in session? Is this a really bad idea? Will I get arrested ? Or worse ridiculed by a bunch of teenagers?
I wanted to run to my local high school about a mile or so away and run on some sprints on the track around lunch time or so. Maybe the early morning might work better like 5:30-7AM? Not sure if it will be open then, but the Sun will be up.
Yes. I don't run if there is a PE class or after school b/c of sports practices. You can call the school and ask if it is okay. Our track is right outside DS's classroom so he looks for me
Are you allowed to use the track generally? Some tracks consider it trespassing (regardless of day or time) and others were nicer when I was trying to find one to use. The ones that did allow use would only do so in the early morning; I would be surprised if a school gave access to their facilities during school time?
ETA: Clearly other schools were nicer than the ones I dealt with.
In our area most tracks are open to the public unless barricaded off. You could definitely call & ask. Or some tracks will have signs about public use policies.
Back when I had an office job, a local school track was about 1 mile away. I'd often run there and do a workout over lunch. If I ever bumped into a PE class I'd ask and they were always fine w/ me using outer lanes. It was rare that I saw anyone though, and I figured I was putting it to good use.

Not sure. I should probably call. I googled but couldn't find any info.
I asked Mr. GT and he said you aren't supposed to use the track, but unless a PE teacher is an a$$hole you should be fine during the day. A lot of the high schools around here have a website that you can check for games and practice schedules.
I don't - I only use the track in the early mornings. But I'm on a college campus so that's mainly because my life is just fine without university track and field buffs casting their judgy eyes on my running capacity/gait/speed/stretchmarks/whatever. So: I say yes you should try it out, the worst they will do is kick you off, but I'm way too self conscious to follow my own advice

The track closest to me is off limits. They lock it and have signs up about trespassing/for school use only. I think most school tracks around here are like that for liability reasons.

I wish we could use a local track! A meet up group I'm in will use the local junior college track sometimes, but I'm sure it's off limits officially. I'm so two-minded on this, though, as I'm an attorney, and would never allow public access if I represented a school district.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.
