First let me talk about what I did like: the directing was great and the acting was spot on. Deans last few scenes were amazing. I enjoyed the parallel to Sam dieing in All Hell Breaks Loose in season 2. Sam sitting in the bunker drinking in a calm sadness really struck me (reminded me of The Body). Mark Shepard was just great at the end there.
However, this isn't as big of a shock as I think they wanted it to be. Foreshadowing all over the place. They can cure demons now so it's not like all hope is lost. Sam was practically a demon in season 4. Cain had the mark forever and was able to get rid of it. They've been really lax with the bad guys being really bad since they've been teaming up with Crowley (which I like).
It was a great episode. Jensen nailed it. I also agree about the foreshadowing. I did think Cas was going to sacrifice his grace. I wasn't 100% that Dean would become a demon. This in no way deminishes my crush on Crowley <3

He did do a great job. There was an interview with Jensen (at the CW Upfronts I think) where he said "It's a bit of an eye opener. Remember I said that." that pretty much gave it away.
Mark Sheppard is the best. Crowley is a great character.
I'm really curious how they're going to explain Demon Dean. If I remember correctly, there are two ways to become a demon. One is by going to hell and losing your humanity and the second is by being possessed. Dean is Dean, but a demon, so how is that possible without him losing his humanity/being possessed?

It's the mark of Cain. Crowley says Cain tried to kill himself but the Mark wouldn't let him, it came from Lucifer after all. And you can also become a demon by being all hopped up on demon blood like Sam in season 4.
I'm really excited for demon Dean. (I might regret saying this).
