So he's not usually affectionate on the outside, but sometimes it shows and it's cute when it happens.
We were at Things Remembered getting a gift engraved and while we were waiting he picked up a baby name booklet that was in the baby section. I was looking over his shoulder and he ran across Amelia (which is currently one of our top names if it's a girl) and he read:
"Amelia, means 'independent'. No no no no, we can't have that. We need 'needy' as in 'she's never going to leave her daddy for some douche of a man'. Let's keep looking" as he starts turning pages for other girl's names.
LOL I started cracking (and tearing) up. He's usually so stoic so to see this softy side that is already starting to bond with our unborn baby was priceless.

You were happy he said that? I would hope that as women we would want a bit more for our daughters than for them to think their only value comes from being with a man be it their father or a future partner. I'm also horrified that the definition of independent somehow now includes being destined to marry a douche. This is not cute.
Lol that's cute, assuming it was a joke of course I can't get too worked up about this, I have heard lots of dads joke about their daughters never being allowed to date or get married, living at home forever, etc. but I don't think anyone is actually serious.
Btw I really like the name Amelia. It's very pretty!
I think the point is that he doesn't want his daughter hooking up with/marrying a d-bag later on in life, which is a normal feeling for most fathers.
@odanata, that's great that your DH is looking through baby names. Mine hasn't done much searching of his own (though he's rejected most of mine). I don't want to hassle him, though, since he's been so busy with work. I swear, this baby is going to come out and not have a name. :/

Yep, it was a joke and said in a very cutesy joking way. I'm sure my H wants an independent daughter. Maybe we just have a different sense of humor.
How many times have I heard women say "no girl is going to be good enough for my son" or mothers becoming sad as soon as the day comes that their kid just doesn't need them as much - when they become independent?

Actually, Amelia was his idea!
Maybe you should have a list ready of top favorites and decide on a name once you see your baby? Maybe once you meet the little peanut before a name will come.
I always wonder if the name we select will "fit" the person, you know?
