So, I am signed up for a sprint triathlon next weekend and I JUST realized that I don't have my tri suit. We're in temp. corporate housing, so most of everything I own is in storage...including my tri suit. Not sure why I didn't think about this when I signed up, but I assumed we'd be in our house by now I guess.
I digress...I need to figure out what to wear. Here's what I have:
Practice swim suit.
Bike shorts ('elite' kind with the smaller chami)
Bike top (sleeveless)
Running shorts
A plethora of running tops
I really didn't end up training well for this tri, mainly the move and a new job have totally turned my world upside down. I have no doubts that I can finish but this is certainly not an A race.
ALSO- I have D tata's so I worry about them flying up in hitting me in the face w/o a bra (just a swim suit). I know the run is only 3.1, so I'm guessing I can probablly deal with it.
I did find a ZOOT 1 piece tri suit @ TJMaxx, it's cute but I really don't want to spend the money (probs taking it back) because A. I don't like one pieces B. It doesn't hold my tatas C. I nearly pulled a muscle trying to put it on.
The swim suit sounds kinda useless - won't contain the boobs, and no fun to sit on the seams on the bike (although for a sprint it's probably ok). I'd probably do sports bra + some kind of shorts (either your bike shorts if you can stand running in them, or compression shorts if you can stand biking in them).
If you have a race no. belt you don't need a shirt (unless you want one). If no race no. belt, pin your bib to loose-fitting (read: easy to get on) non-support running tank or bike jersey to pull on in T1.
Putting on shorts when you are wet in T1 is not a good idea. Have you ever tried putting on bike shorts straight out of the pool or shower? It's no fun, and even less fun when you know someone is timing you.

wear your sports bra under any top you're comfortable swimming in. Just jump in the shower or the pool with it first to make sure it doesn't hold a ton of water.
I would swim in tri shorts and sports bra, and then put a top on in T1. Have your top inside-out in transition so it's easier to roll over your wet body.
Do you all have a strong preference either way for full pieces vs two?
I've never worn a 1 piece because I'm too afraid of the bathroom logistics. 2 pieces for life.
Speedo Fastskins became a "thing" during the last few years of college swimming for me, and I remember how hard it was to wrestle into one of those (you'd put it on after warmup before your race, to minimize bathroom logistics), so your skin wasn't totally dry when trying. It took teammates to help, and god help you if you did have to take it down again to go to the bathroom. I don't want tri gear that reminds me of that!
I personally like two pieces also, but I think that a one piece is fine for sprints - you probably won't need to go to the bathroom in the middle of ~90 minutes. And you can always pee in the lake
Some people like one pieces for longer distances (our local elites and pros mostly wear one-pieces (they also probably pee on their bikes)). If it's a great deal, and makes more sense for this race, I don't think it's a bad thing to have.
