I'll preface this by saying that I will of course go be professionally fitted, but I'm looking for a list of things to try on.
I currently wear Brooks Adrenaline, and am just not feeling the love with the 13s. My left foot callous (is that what it is?) is just getting worse, and it burns after a long run. I had SuperFeet insoles that helped, but they started cutting my arch, and $$ shoes and $ insoles are ticking me off as a combo.
I went to my LRS a few months ago and tried on a few, and my fave seemed to be the Asics GT 2000 - I think that's what they were - but the toe box was really big, and I felt like I was sliding around.
The one hitch is that it has to come in a 5, and they told me there's a popular Saucony, but they don't come that small.

Lol @ Andrealynn! I might just need to give them a whirl.
The Mizuno also only go down to a 6. Hmmm, the LRS did suggest looking at kids sizes, but I've found them to be wider, and I definitely don't need wide shoes. I guess I should try them on before poo-pooing the idea entirely!

Thanx for making this post Mushe, it was one of my next questions. I will go to the local running room here and see what they say with getting fitted. (I had no idea that I should be fitted for shoes and not just wear whatever.)

Awesome, awick! It's funny, I knew about getting fitted, but not that my needs could or would change. Crazy. It makes me so self conscious to jog around a store in front of people, but whatever works!

I have big wide feet, so I'm probably no help. I ran in the Asics GT2170s before they went to the 2000s - I liked them. I tried the 1000s and did not like those. I just got the Brooks Ravennas and really like those.
The petite trainer at my gym wears Kids asics - Bonus: Kids shoes are cheaper! Might be worth a shot!
I was going to suggest Saucony Hurricanes. Have you looked at their kids line?
Ooh, these come in a 5! And they're on sale! You might be tonight's big winner.
I haven't tried Asics so I can't compare the toe box, but I've never had issues with Saucony shoes being too wide. Brooks never hit the arches of my feet quite right, not sure if you have tried those as well. I think it's the Ghost that is more of a stability shoe?
Anyway, I used the Hurricane style right after knee surgery when I was pronating like crazy, they are definitely a stablity shoe. I would get them from a place that will let you return after running in them a few times, they could over-correct you too much. The next step down in stability would be the Guides.

I wear Adrenalines, and they've come out with the 14s now, if you want to try them and see if you like them better than the 13s.
I feel you on having a difficult shoe size. I wear a 9.5 or 10 Narrow, and I need a stability shoe. I think there are only 3 stability shoes that come in narrow.

Ooh, thanks for the tip. I'll ask my LRS to order my size in the 14s and try those out. I'm sorry you're in a similar shoe boat!

Thank you! I have the Guides and Hurricanes in my Zappos cart, and I'm trying to decide about pulling the trigger. I've never done it, but their return policy does say you can return within 365 days for any reason.

I just saw this. I always bring my old shoes with me. The wear on your treads can tell a lot about how you run. Also think about which side if the roads you run on cause if slope of the berm, etc. can affect how the treads break down.
Stupid app. This is supposed to be quoting awick14
Ditto. I searched Amazon until I found the 9's (only left in a size 12 which is what I wear) to save money, but would have paid full price for them. This is my 3rd pair in as many years and I adore them!
ETA: I have bought 3 pairs because I put a ton of miles on them, not because they are poorly made and need to be replaced.

edited again to tag you correctly.
That's a good idea. I have cheap shoes I run in right now, I'll bring them and see what they say.

I have also run through many iterations of the Adrenalines, and I have to say that the 14s are WAY different than the 13s. It's worth not counting them out entirely when you try out more shoes.
Thank you! That's really good to know. I just started using my current pair on 4/1, and I haaaate them.

Update: I bought the Saucony Guide 7 on sale from Zappos. They had a 5, while my LRS and Saucony and other running websites only go to a 6. Weird!
Anyway, I tried them out today for 2.5 and like them so far! Love the flat laces. I've been having trouble lately with my Adrenaline laces coming undone, so hopefully this will solve that problem.
