We are building a house and have a blank slate walk-in closet. The room is a 6'6" x 11' rectangle. I currently have a small window at the back (it's long and skinny, so on the 6' wall) but people keep telling me that I should trade it for more shelf/hanging space. Our bedroom is pretty big so we would definitely have at least one dresser for folded clothes out there.
KEEP!!! Windows give such great personality in small spaces. Plus you have room for a small mirror or vanity it offers some great light for applying makeup/plucking eyebrows :Y:
I would LOVE to have a window in my closet. I would definitely keep it. It will make the space seem bigger, plus it will be brighter and you'll have better light for your clothes.
I would ditch the window. I would prefer the space. I wouldn't put on my makeup in my closet, especially if I had a large room where I could put a vanity. I don't need natural light to see my clothes.

I'd ditch the window too. Not sure if it's just me being paranoid, but I'd think that the sun could fade whatever it's hitting. If it's just the sleeve of a jacket over time I'd think it could be a different color than the part of the jacket that's hidden.
I have no idea if this is a valid though, but I would wonder.

I would ditch it. That's very valid. I've had clothes faded by the sun in my car and would be too worried about it happening in a closet, especially since some things stay in the same place for a season. Also, it gives you a windowless room for storms if you can't make it into another safe area and you don't have to worry about a window blowing in and ruining your wardrobe. I'd take shelf space over the risk.

That's a good point. I have officially switched sides based on this reason.
Personally I'd keep the window. I like the light it lets in and high spaces are just so useless for me because I could never reach anything up in that area anyway.
