My training camp workouts are finished. In this 3 day weekend, I've:
- swum 2500 yds - biked 108.79 miles - run 21.30 miles
(lol, I had 3 days and it's still not an entire Ironman ) I'm pretty sure I've had whole months that are less than that, albeit earlier in my tri career
I am so unbelievably exhausted. The last piece was a 2 hour run today; I was intending for it to be 12 miles. I didn't quite make it. I made the foolhardy decision to do it at midday (on purpose) to practice running in full sun, 80*, high humidity, to prepare for race day conditions as well as possible, since the run will be in the midday heat. I ran out of water twice; the first time a convenience store was willing to fill my bottles at the sink (holla, Stewarts!) because of course I had no cash; the 2nd time was around mile 10. From there I ran home the shortest way possible, because I had stopped sweating. It ended up being 11.7 miles.
I am proud of the weekend, but disappointed in how the run finished up. Last year in my HIM I started to fall apart between miles 7-9 of the run, and that's where things got ugly today. I am hopeful that the run of the HIM will actually be easier than today's run, because 1.2 mi swim + 56 mi bike can't be as bad as trying to run after 2500 swim + 109 miles bike + 9 miles run in the preceding 2 days. Right? I hope. Time for some serious recovery.
I think "totally toasted" is exactly how you want to slide in to taper! Hopefully this weekend is a major confidence booster (it should be - you killed it).
I am REALLY excited about this race. I'm telling you, right?
Thanks Once I get myself recovered and rested I will be really psyched to race. Compared to last year my long runs and rides are not quite as long this time - no 13, 14 mile runs or 55-60 mile rides - but my overall volume is so much higher, and I've done so many more bricks. My running mileage this month is already 10 miles higher than my lifetime high month, and I have 2 more runs this month to go. I am really hoping this pays off!

I think you are well prepared and definitely ready! I mean what kind of crazy person decides to run mid-day at 80 degrees just to simulate race conditions? One who wants the extra challenge, I guess!
I'm tired just reading that! You would have found me sitting at the side of the road as you sped by. lol Or perhaps just doing the backfloat in the water waving as you rode by.
Look, over the course of my weekend I ran 20 miles & biked 12 (LOL!), and I still wanted to die at the end of my FIVE miles yesterday afternoon, in the terrible heat & humidity. I think you did a hell of a lot more than just survive. Awesome job!!
