I completed my first half marathon yesterday! I am paying for it now, but man, was it worth it. I had an A goal of 3 hours flat. I finished in 2:53:xx! Woohoo! The race started at 7am so I was up at 4:15 and I had not slept much the night before.
I walked some and also walked all of the water/gatorade stops. I found out that my body can't handle Vanilla Bean Gu gel and had to walk most of mile 11 until I felt better. That ended my hopes of a 2:45, but that's okay. The main point is I finished under my goal time and I had a blast while doing it. I have frequent foot issues but I had NO pain! I did get a side stitch at the very end but worked through it.
About a quarter of a mile from the finish I saw a girl start to crash. I tapped her and said "You can do it! Come with me!" She smiled at me and started running harder. We finished a few seconds apart. I later saw her in the bathroom. I said "You did it!" She commented "You did too! Thank you so much; I would have started walking!"
I cannot wait to do another in September with the same friend I did yesterday's with along with bostonmichelle!
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.
