1st - rant - my uterus hates me, seriously! My period showed up a week early with no warning...on a 5 hour drive to a long weekend in the backcountry. As in no available restrooms and every.single.thing. I packed in I had to pack back out with me. Of course I didn't pack for a full blown blood bath so I had to stop at a gas station and spend an exorbitant amount of money on crappy tampax because they had no OB.
2nd - AW - I survived 3 full days in the wilderness with my period and did not leave a single trace behind! I packed every thing back out with me and it wasn't even that bad! I had two "bio bags" [ziploc bags wrapped in duct tape for any TP, etc] and only needed to use one and it wasn't as gross as I anticipated although I may have overused baby wipes just to wash my hands!
And to make up for my whining...here are a few shots from the weekend in Canyonlands...
my period came and surprised me this week too, out of nowhere. in the middle of the night. I woke up to what can only be compared to what looked like a crime scene in bed. :/

Gah! The worst! It's so annoying! I can handle a period, it's the unpredictability that makes me crazy!
You handled that way better than I did when we were camping one year. I was not prepared for my period and I was miserable!
Love the pictures. We were there last year and had a good time.
I was so pissed -- but luckily the surprise period at least gave me an easy week with minimal misery aside from the inconvenience!
It really is a gorgeous NP, my first desert/canyon visit!
Are you visiting any other parks on this trip? I'm a little jealous you did some back country camping there! We hit Canyonlands on a July afternoon so we didn't do any major hiking, but even just doing the little walks you get such amazing views! But Arches NP is close by and we got up early the next day and did the Delicate Arch hike. So cool too!

Just Canyonlands -- back to the daily grind already.
Definitely want to do more desert exploring, but preferably in May/June or Oct/Nov just because I don't like hot heat...!
As someone who has had to pack out tampons on a day long trip, I can't imagine for a couple days! Beautiful views!
Ah! It's a huge pain! And without OB tampons I had the stupid plastic thing to drag around with me too! So annoying! But I made it...and it was worth it!
