My lovely H ran into my front bike wheel yesterday when pulling into the garage. It's bent. As in it can't go a full rotation (is that the right word?) because it gets stopped/stuck on the fork. Is this something I'll have to take my whole bike to the LBS, or can I just bring in the front wheel? Does this even sound like it's fixable, or is my H just going to have to buy me a new one?
Chances are the front wheel is toast and will have to be replaced for safety reasons unless it's only slightly "out of true".
I'd take the bike in to have the frame and fork checked for cracks or misaligments. Such an impact may not look like it damaged the frame or fork, but I wouldn't take any chances. Your H could get hurt if there is a hairline fracture and the frame snaps in two or the fork breaks while he is riding.
I agree with everything sadlebred just said. If the wheel is actually getting stuck, that sounds totally knackered. But even if the forks/frame look good, it could be unsafe, which at 30mph, if it goes pear shaped is very dangerous. Better safe than sorry.
