Hey Ladies, made the switch over here and have a question.
We need to get a new cat box, as the super cheap one we got cracked in the back and it's about to fall apart, plus, we can hardly get the top off to change out the cat litter.
An automatic cat box would be cool, but do any of those come with tops?
Both of my cats will refuse to use the cat box if it doesn't have a top on it, so that is a must. My female will just refuse to go or go on my pillow, and my male will just kick all the litter out side the box, then go in the litter outside.
It should also be easy to take the top off for us. Changing the cat box is a chore already and I don't want to have it turn into a strenuous exercise too.
Although we're not opposed to spending some big $$ on a cat box, we would like it to be on the cheaper end (just not so cheap it cracks!!)
I second the Clever Cat boxes--my H and I made our own out of Rubbermaid totes for about $5 each. We just got a decent sized plastic tote, with cover, traced a pot lid on the top, and then cut a circle into the top for the entrance. They don't have a ridges on the top to help catch litter, but mine don't track litter too much with these that I've noticed--I think they track way less litter than when they used to have a traditional box though!
One of the blogs I read just posted a rave review for this box: litterspinner.com/
They love it because it's got the convenience of an automated box in terms of scooping but without the breakable mechanical parts. Review: www.shakesville.com/2012/05/shaker-thumbs.html
And it's essentially a cylinder, so covered is built in.
