I met a guy from okcupid for a beer for a first date and we walked around downtown. While drinking I'd asked if he liked Marvel movies and from there we snowballed into Xmen, favorite superheroes, movies vs the comics, WoW, Bubble Bobble, Nintendo games, Xbox games, LOTR, Game of Thrones, and Harry Potter. After the beer we walked around a little and went into a local comic shop. While in the comic book store we talked about each and every comic either of us had ever read and at one point I joked that I had all the Harry Potter figurines in my house. "Really? They're...they're like $200 each!" he said. "Yeah well my house is Harry Potter themed, so I thought it was an investment." He sort of froze and then I laughed and he realized I was kidding. Like two minutes later he referred to a board game with Westeros in the title as a Lord of the Rings game and I said "well actually Westeros is Song of Ice and Fire, Lord of the Rings is Middle Earth." And then I sort of froze and thought well dear God I sound like the biggest nerd in the world. He smiled and said it was refreshing to be corrected instead of correcting someone else on that sort of stuff.
He walked me to my car, kissed me goodbye, and asked to see me again, so I guess he didn't mind too much
But anyway it reconfirmed my belief that I will be happiest dating someone with similar dorky hobbies because it was so much fun to talk about Xmen with someone who knew all the back stories and in and outs.
I love dating fellow geeks. I think my boyfriend was smitten when he came to my hotel room and there was a plush AT-AT sitting next to the bed (I'd bought it on my business trip and put it there to try to make the room a little more homey since I was there for a long time).

I always joke that I knew DH was the one for me because on our first date we were talking about X-Files and he referred to the episodes by title (back in the day where you pretty much had to be an avid fan and look those things up on the internet since they don't show the title in front of the show). :-)
This sounds like the start of a lovely relationship. Some of our favorite dates were in World of Warcraft....Not our first one, but some of the ones after.
