Someone on my FB posted they were unhappy because the show will be for-profit?
It states clearly what the money is going towards. If they're unhappy then they shouldn't pledge. I look at it as they're going to have to continue with new material and upgrades after the site is launched, so the money they generate by subscription fees, etc. will be put to bettering the website.

And likely buying the rights to more books and so on. Basically as I see it they are setting up a library, they need funds to get it going and in time it will be free for all/most but for now those that can afford it are subsidizing it for those that can't (or at least that is the goal, they use the subscribers/donaters funds to defray the cost so they can provide it for free to schools that most need it then all schools, then the general public/increase the access free users have)

There's a lot to be said for not having to constantly chase down grants and donations to survive. Being a for profit gives them a bit more stability and leaves them more time to focus on the reading.

I saw this earlier and mentioned it to DH, adding: "Troy would be so happy!" And he smiled like a nerdy fool and told me he loved that that was my initial reaction to the news.
He has so, so, so wanted to make me a Community convert and has been trying to sneak episodes into our joint tv time the past season or so.
