I used to get the express keratin. It was nice since it didn't require waiting the 3 days before washing/putting my hair in a ponytail. However, it would only last between 4-6 weeks for the express treatment. I would have considered getting it done again, but at the time I was traveling so much and wasn't checking a bag, so I didn't feel like dealing with travel size of the approved shampoos. But it was nice being able to straighten my hair so quickly and it not being completely ruined the moment I stepped foot outside. I do notice I wear my hair up/back a lot more this summer than last since I haven't had a treatment done since last year.
I know some people have said there is formaldehyde (I think that was it) in certain of the straightening treatments, so I would also look into that.
I like the BB because it doesn't have the 3 day downtime before you can wash or clip your hair. It also seems to provide more shine.
I like the keratin because it is longer lasting (by about a month for me) and I barely need to use any styling product.
They are both worth it to me. I have pretty tight curls, and a lot of thickness through the back. My combined blowdry/flatiron time was cut from 35 minutes to 10. If I want to, I can let it airdry into loose, casual waves and just blowdry my bangs to make them lay right. Airdrying my natural curls resulted in a huge fuzzball.
Also I have done the Japanese Straightening quite a few times. Its expensive, but my hair looked really healthy and smooth for at least a year. My natural hair is mostly straight, but is course and a little wavy in some areas.
I do Japanese. I looove it. I have very curly, thick, course hair and it tames it so well. If you are interested in it, I can give you more info. Too lazy to type now.
The salon I go to charges the same for Japanese as they do for Keratin.
Starlily - thanks for the feedback. I am looking to be able to airdry my hair into loose, casual waves (as you said) with minimal work in the morning. I may ask my stylist about this when I see her in a couple weeks.
Also ask your stylist about adjusting the level of the treatment. My stylist always asks me if I want to take out as much curl as possible or leave some in. The first time.I left some in since I wasn't sure how it would ask turn out, but now I tell her to go as straight as she can.
