So, DS is now willing to sit on the potty for pooping but the poop is just not coming out. We went to the pedi for an unrelated issue and he suggested Miralax as well. I thought there would be different dosing for age on the bottle, but it just says "1 cap -- fill to line" which seems to be the adult dose. How much should I give for a 3-year-old? And does it work like -- OMG, get him on the potty within 10 minutes of giving it, or is it just generally a stool softener, no big rush?

We use it every day for DS1 (6), on doctors orders as well (he has encopresis). After a trial and error period, we give him 3/4 cap every day at lunch, which seems to work the best. I'd start with 1/2 cap and see what happened. The first time he poops after starting it might not be, uh, pretty (if he's backed up) but then it should go back to normal.
Is he constipated or just not willing to sit on the potty?
Thanks everyone! To answer this question, I think it's a little of both. I think he is constipated, so he prefers to go in his diaper because he can walk around and crouch to get it out. He's probably always been that way but it never really affected anything because he'd get it out eventually, and when he was in diapers 24/7 it didn't matter when. At first he was saying the potty was "too hard" and was holding it in, which just made everything worse. Now he's sitting on the potty and pushing (or pretending to) but without result. Sigh.
We use 1t each day in DD's milk. She has been stubborn with the PTing, and will hold her poop to avoid using the toilet. The Miralax just keeps her from getting baked-up, and it does take a couple days to kick in.
