One of the boys has social skills goals that we had written into his iep ( as a result of a mediation). It took them almost 2 months to give us them...an entirely different story there. At any rate, they say he will do the desired goals of responding to another's topic 4 out of 5 times and develop an understanding of when is an appropriate time to talk to someone 4 out of 5 times. I responded to the case manager that I felt these needed to be reworked. They also include teacher observation as the only means to evaluate. I can't find a good social skills goal, data base. Any suggestions?
Check Michelle Garcia Winners blog? Www.socialthinking.com-I have gotten a ton of goals from there and her books as a professional. I have her books, so if you want I can check if you give me more specifics (feel free to pm me).
I don't trust the SLP. That is part of the problem.
Bummer.
Is there someone else who can collect data? I can see where this would be a challenge during regular class time. Is the head of the CST, the IEP custodian or a counselor/school psych available for this?
They are typically done by the social, worker. An example, the pragmatics goals that were added in April were "mastered" 3 weeks later as per the SLP mid marking period progress sheet she sent home. I disagree that he could master goals that quickly as we had been working on them for 2 years prior to this...that and he isn't doing them at home.
Did the SLP do any formal assessments for social skills? If not, that would be a request since those assessments can help focus objectives, as well as give a better feel to whether or not it's truly been mastered. You can always ask for an outside assessment or bring in your own?
Long story shortened, he had an IEE in speech and social skills. These goals being added are a result of a mediation in which we asked them to follow through with the recommendations. He has PDD nos, apraxia, a phonological disorder, and dysarthria ( and ld's) contributing to his articulation and social skills issues. The SLP is who we aren't comfortable with as she had marked progress on other items that weren't mastered, showed growth where there was none, etc. The social worker who did social skills in 1st did not keep records on what she did and wasn't able to produce anything for the IEE.

Ugh I'm sorry. It makes me so sad when I see SLPs making poor decisions when stuff like this happens. Is he getting PROMPT from the SLP?

We are looking to do it on our own but he isn't right now. The school district will not do it even though it was recommended by the SLP who did the IEE. They said they will only use it for non verbal kids while in the mediation.
I got a response back from the case manager who said she would forward my concerns to the director. I am fuming! His mediation was April 3rd. We have 12 days of school left. They wasted an entire marking period when the mediation agreement said it would be done in 15 days after the mediation. I contacted the state and filed an enforcement of mediation the beginning of the month and have yet to hear back from them other than the case manager giving us 2 crappy goals that are not well, written and not very measurable.
I have put all of my energy in this. I feel like we need to push this summer...the esy SLP does prompt. The regular school year SLP said she isn't comfortable touching his face,
