What race are you doing? Governor's Cup - 12 days!!!!!
Any Aws/highlights for the week? Taper time! I'm actually looking forward to not having a double digit run this week!
Setbacks or frustrations right now? No
Do you have a #1 marathon you want to do someday, but haven't yet? What draws you to it? (Outside of Boston ) Mount Desert Island Marathon in Maine. My family has a vacation house up there, and the course goes right by our house and I have this fantasy of having my family sit in the driveway and cheer me on as I go by. lol And I know how gorgeous the scenery is up there and would love to have that view while running.
When you do you long runs, how to do them? Out and back, loop run, zig zag all over the place trying to get mileage in? Its a mix. For anything over 18 miles, I drag my butt to the bike path and run out and back. But anything less, I tend to stick around my neighborhood and zig zag all over the place to get miles in. I also take my dogs out 1 at a time so I run some routes multiple times in a run.
What do you crave the most after crossing the finish line? Water, Gatorade, oranges...I haven't found one particular thing, but I want something that will quench my thirst typically. I never want anything that will make me more thirsty right away.
What race are you doing? Andy Payne Marathon, 9/14 24 the Hard Way, 10/25-not sure about this. I'm debating doing the Hotter'n Hell 100 century ride in August instead. I cannot train for both, so it's one or the other. I'm leaning towards postponing the ultra because the ride is earlier in the semester.
Any Aws/highlights for the week? I did my long run on the day after my first bike wreck, so I was pretty proud of myself for running instead of staying in bed. That being said, damn it my hip hurts. Stupid road rash.
Setbacks or frustrations right now? I've had some issues with the bottom of my foot hurting. I'm trying to work around it.
Do you have a #1 marathon you want to do someday, but haven't yet? What draws you to it? (Outside of Boston ) Not really. I'd like to do a marathon in Scotland someday, but I don't know if there's one there or not.
When you do you long runs, how to do them? Out and back, loop run, zig zag all over the place trying to get mileage in? I tend to do an out-and-back at one of the local lakes. There is a trail around the entire lake, but I don't feel safe alone on parts of it. Therefore, I park my car at a restaurant and do my typical 6 mile total out-and-back route until I get the mileage I need. If the wind is too high, I'll go to another park, which has a 1.5 mile paved loop.
What do you crave the most after crossing the finish line? Muscle milk
What race are you doing? MCM. Not officially training yet but need to get back into the marathon training midset.
Any Aws/highlights for the week? I ran twice this weekend! and the second run was faster than the first
Setbacks or frustrations right now? nope.
Do you have a #1 marathon you want to do someday, but haven't yet? What draws you to it? (Outside of Boston ) I think I'd want to do an international race. Maybe Berlin or Paris or London
When you do you long runs, how to do them? Out and back, loop run, zig zag all over the place trying to get mileage in? I hate, hate, hate out and backs. It's psychological torture for me to retrace my exact. same. steps. I always run in some kind of loop or zig zag.
What do you crave the most after crossing the finish line? fountain coke.
What race are you doing? Grandma's Marathon 6.21.14
Any Aws/highlights for the week? I was happy to do 21 this weekend.
Setbacks or frustrations right now? Wish I would have felt better at the end of 21. I think my body is trying to acclimate to summer & rebelling somewhat. Otherwise I'm thankful to feel pretty healthy.
Do you have a #1 marathon you want to do someday, but haven't yet? What draws you to it? (Outside of Boston ) I think NYC would be really amazing. I'd also love to run in a completely different geography like CA wine country or the SE coast. If I had the occasion & flexibility to travel anywhere beyond a few hours from home for a race I'd take it! Edit: I'm reminded now that MCM is on my someday list. If I get the itch to do a fall marathon soon I want to run Twin Cities.
When you do you long runs, how to do them? Out and back, loop run, zig zag all over the place trying to get mileage in? I have been liking a combo of small out and backs. I'll maybe do 5 miles out and back on hills and then an out and back on the bike trail until I've got enough miles. I seem to feel better being only 4-5 miles from home instead of 10 miles out.
What do you crave the most after crossing the finish line? Sitting down. Chocolate milk usually hits the spot, then later a beer and a giant cheeseburger.

as someone who has ran MDI marathon - it is by far the most scenic, beautiful race I've ever ran. I could run it every year!
What race are you doing? Chicago Marathon 10/12/14
Any Aws/highlights for the week?
I had a really strong hilly run on Saturday.
Setbacks or frustrations right now? My biggest issue is that I don't like any of the colors my shoes come in. I hope to keep it that way.
Do you have a #1 marathon you want to do someday, but haven't yet? What draws you to it? (Outside of Boston )
MCM. I'd like to run a full at home. My plan is to enter the 2015 lottery, assuming all goes well in October and I don't swear off marathons forever.
When you do you long runs, how to do them? Out and back, loop run, zig zag all over the place trying to get mileage in? If I'm by myself I do out and backs. When I run with my training partner I depend on her to figure it out. She knows I'm directionally challenged.
What do you crave the most after crossing the finish line? Water. At the Derby festival half I took cups of water from 3 or 4 volunteers back to back.
What race are you doing? signed up for Kiawah full (tuggyruns & hannahb), still trying to decide about a November local half/full
Any Aws/highlights for the week? ran a half yesterday. My 4th time on that course & best time yet for that race.
Setbacks or frustrations right now? Not running related, all house/adoption related
Do you have a #1 marathon you want to do someday, but haven't yet? What draws you to it? (Outside of Boston ) I've ran both of the ones I really wanted to run - Mt. Desert Island & MCM - both i would run again in a heartbeat.
When you do you long runs, how to do them? Out and back, loop run, zig zag all over the place trying to get mileage in? Routes around the lake that end back at my house. If it is super hot, i'll loop back by my house to refill bottles
What do you crave the most after crossing the finish line? NOT gatorade By then i'm sick of it. Usually my stomach is unsettled for a while, but later anything goes. Yesterday it was potato chips & watermelon
What race are you doing? Potomac River Run Marathon 11/16
Any Aws/highlights for the week? Lots of great stuff this week: PRed a 5K at 22:29, had my longest post partum run at 14 miles, joined a great mom's running group in my town
Setbacks or frustrations right now? Honestly, I'm feeling pretty good. My hip is sore every now and then, but just slightly and it loosens up. I just wish I had a little more extra spending money to buy some running clothes or sign up for more races.
Do you have a #1 marathon you want to do someday, but haven't yet? What draws you to it? (Outside of Boston )Not really. Boston is consuming my thoughts right now. I think Chicago would be fun to do someday since I have family in the area. I may look into it in a few years. NYC would be cool, but damn it's pricey!
When you do you long runs, how to do them? Out and back, loop run, zig zag all over the place trying to get mileage in? I've done out and back and loop runs for my last training. I think I'm going to try to just mix it up this time around so I don't get bored with a route. I might try a few different trails and just do some routes around my town. Higher mileage will probably be on a trail since there is predictable access to amenities (water, bathroom, etc.)
What do you crave the most after crossing the finish line? Gatorade or chocolate milk

I may have to look into this one someday. My H is from Maine (not MDI) so we go back there every few years. MDI is just so beautiful. It would be pretty awesome to run a race there!
Any Aws/highlights for the week? Week 1 was a success. I followed the training plan to a T
Setbacks or frustrations right now? I caught a nasty cold on Friday, and today seems to be the worst day so far. My sinuses are totally killing me and I have blown my nose about a thousand times so far. I am hitting the sudafed and ibuprofen hard, but it is only taking the edge off. Today is supposed to be a cross training day. If cross training means moving from the couch to the kitchen, and back to the couch again... I'm totally nailing it.
Do you have a #1 marathon you want to do someday, but haven't yet? What draws you to it? (Outside of Boston ) I know you said other than Boston, but that is really what I have my sights set on right now. I don't really have any other major bucket list marathons at the moment, but I'm sure that will change
When you do you long runs, how to do them? Out and back, loop run, zig zag all over the place trying to get mileage in? I do a giant out and back for anything 17 miles or less. Longer that, and I do an out and back as if I were running 17 (the path gets kinda sketchy if I go any farther south, but I don't like doing the bulk of it to the north because its much more crowded), then I double back north for an extra mile or two at the end.
What do you crave the most after crossing the finish line? A banana and something salty immediately after finishing. Preferably pretzels. An hour or so later, I crave a big breakfast. Pancakes/waffles, fruit, eggs, turkey sausage... all the things. Usually the second half of a long run or race is spent thinking about what I want to eat when I'm finished, lol
What race are you doing? MCM. I'm not really training for it until September, but I will have some heavy mileage this Summer that must count for something
Any Aws/highlights for the week? Being able to see on my runs is pretty fun. Even though I just missed a PR and money on my 10k, I'm pretty stoked about my time on that course. It's pretty tough, and last Summer I got a 22:29 in the 5k. The 10k is the same course twice, and yesterday I got a 42:25.
Setbacks or frustrations right now? Nope! Wahoo!
Do you have a #1 marathon you want to do someday, but haven't yet? What draws you to it? (Outside of Boston ) NYCM and Medoc. NYCM because of the entertainment factor, and Medoc for the wine. I'm planning on only running a couple more marathons, but if the chance came to run either of these, I think I would.
When you do you long runs, how to do them? Out and back, loop run, zig zag all over the place trying to get mileage in? I'm usually zig zagging and looping around town. There aren't too many places to run so my neighbors see me run by again and again and again.
What do you crave the most after crossing the finish line? water and a shower. I usually eat whatever is around so I don't get sick, but nothing ever sounds good until a few hours later. Then, beer and carbs and dessert.
the fact that you didn't get to run NYCM is right up there with kams bike shop dude on the list of things that make me angry for other people. you were ROBBED.
When you do you long runs, how to do them? Out and back, loop run, zig zag all over the place trying to get mileage in? I hate, hate, hate out and backs. It's psychological torture for me to retrace my exact. same. steps. I always run in some kind of loop or zig zag.
Haha, I love my out and back because I know exactly where the mile points are, so I don't have to worry about getting lost, or not going far enough (even though I have a gps watch). I thrive on repetition lol.
What race are you doing? Rock-n-roll Savannah 11/8/14
Any Aws/highlights for the week? I powered through my swampy 12 miler & stuck to my "all long runs under 8:15" goal.
Setbacks or frustrations right now? I need to find a shoe to fall in love with. I'm close to buying the Sayonaras.
Do you have a #1 marathon you want to do someday, but haven't yet? What draws you to it? (Outside of Boston ) Well, I'm hoping since I qualified, that I'll be able to run Boston in April...so I'll put that aside. I really want to run San Francisco one day (not Nike). I love racing in CA, and I love San Fran. I haven't yet, because all of my races have been for time. I think it might be a good post-kid race, when I'm not pushing for time, and just trying to get back into the swing of things.
When you do you long runs, how to do them? Out and back, loop run, zig zag all over the place trying to get mileage in? Usually out & back. Mentally, they work really well for me.
What do you crave the most after crossing the finish line? Beer & something salty. Later on in the day/evening, I usually want a big burger...and more beer.

I knew there was someone here who had done it. The more you rave about it, the more I want to do it!
On a semi related note, my family is going up the Maine house this week and I'm so jealous. I wish I were going with them! I'm just really craving a visit to MDI.
What race are you doing? North Fork 50M - June 28th
Any Aws/highlights for the week? I stopped before I really injured myself? Does that count?
Setbacks or frustrations right now? I DNF'ed my first race this weekend, made it 17 miles into a 50K with jacked digitorum [foot] tendons, cried lots of trail tears and called it a day. It sucked, but then I got free beer and decided to excel in spectating/pseudo-volunteering. The foot is still janky so it was the right decision.
Do you have a #1 marathon you want to do someday, but haven't yet? What draws you to it? (Outside of Boston ) I'm really not sure, nothing specific draws me in. I think destination races would be awesome...like, international destination.
When you do you long runs, how to do them? Out and back, loop run, zig zag all over the place trying to get mileage in? Depends. I have some go-to trails where I know the distance/vert when I'm on a time crunch. Otherwise I go explore and hope for the best -- so a bit of everything.
What do you crave the most after crossing the finish line? Salt. So much salt. Bags of potato chips and pounds of french fries!
What race are you doing? MCM - 10/26, I'm not officially training, but I printed out my schedule today.
Any Aws/highlights for the week? I PRed my 5K, 23:03, and ran a 6:51 first mile.
Setbacks or frustrations right now? Not really
Do you have a #1 marathon you want to do someday, but haven't yet? What draws you to it? (Outside of Boston ) Medoc, wine, enough said!
When you do you long runs, how to do them? Out and back, loop run, zig zag all over the place trying to get mileage in? I usually do a 1-2 mile warm-up, stop and go to the bathroom and then do an out and back. I don't like to be more than 5 miles from my starting point. So if I am on the trail I usually run back to where I started, refill my water, and go the other way.
What do you crave the most after crossing the finish line? Coffee, I don't drink coffee before a race, so I always want it after a race.
