I've had the same Polar (that's the F6, I think?) for about 8 yrs as well. The battery in the watch is very easy to change, and I've done it multiple times. Buy an eyeglass repair kit and the screw driver will fit the screws on the back faceplate. The battery costs, like $3.
The chest-strap battery died on me about a year ago. I'm pretty sure they make you buy a replacement now, they no longer service the old ones. Please correct me if I'm wrong because I'd like to use it again. However, I think that's the case now. I've been using my bulky Garmin 305 in it's place.
