First, thanks again for all your input on salt tabs, electrolytes earlier this week.
I want to order a few new gels to try, and I came across salted watermelon gu. I have almost nill for local places that carry this stuff, so I'll order online. Anybody tried this? It sounds ok, but I don't want to be stuck with a 8 or 12 gels that I hate.
Also, nuun. If you use it during races, do you just wear a handheld or water belt? I rarely carry my own hydration during races (except maybe a throw away bottle the first few miles) and I'm not sure I want to.
Is it Gu brand? If you order from REI online, you can order a variety of gel flavors individually (and if you use ebates, you get cash back on it). I love hammer gels - all but espresso - and Gu, salted caramel, peanut butter, chocolate mint, & lemon lime.
I wouldn't order 8-12 of a flavor i wasn't sure about Def check out REI

Funny, I just ordered the watermelon gu today. I tend to hate fruit-flavored gu, but DH loves everything watermelon, so I'm going to give it to him. I can report back after he tries it.
I don't use nuun during races, only during training runs. When I get deeper into my training cycles, I do my long runs with whatever they serve on the course (usually gatorade or powerade).
Thanks -- I will def check out REI. And yes, it's a new gu brand flavor I think.
I think I will just stick w/ the course powerade & continue practicing with it. Usually any flavor of sports drink works for my stomach, so that's a plus.
I'm planning to run with a handheld bottle this weekend at my half. It's going to be warm and I will use Nuun and supplement with the Powerade along the course.
I use Nuun during races, but I don't mind and train with carrying water. I use a handheld for short summer runs or long winter runs, and a belt for long runs.
