This is our first summer in the house with trees/woods, so I need to get the dogs on something. I remember seeing horror stories about Frontline. Is it safe? If not, what should I use?
I had heard horror stories about K9 Advantix, not Frontline.
We're finishing up some Frontline, and the vet gave me a sample of Vectra. She said Frontline is becoming less effective and this is a newer formulation.
Pet Armor. It has the same ingredients as Frontline but it's half the cost. Frontline's patent ran out so other company's jumped at the chance to use their formula.
We've used K9 Advantix and just recently had issues. Our dog now gets VERY dry skin where the ointment is placed. My mother in law had a horrible experience with Frontline... as in, her dog no longer has fur on it's back.
My mom uses Sentry and has had no issues. I'm thinking of switching to this.
We use Vectra which you apply like frontline. Honestly, I am not in love with the CHEMICALS aspect but ticks are drawn to my dog and they are really hard to find because he is furry. The vectra works well so we haven't really explored other brands. It also has mosquito protection which I like as it is added heartworm protection (or crazy dog mom peace of mind).
Sentinel. Its good for fleas and ticks and cheaper than trifexis or revolution.
ETA: Its in a pill form, my boys will rub all over the carpet whenever they get anything that's topical.
Does this really work for ticks? I just looked it up and it only says HW and fleas. I ask because I would LOVE to find a non-topical tick preventive for my dog. I hate putting the goo on her back.

We use Frontline. I tried Vectra once after our vet recommended it but for some reason I could not get past the horrid smell. This was a few years ago so maybe they changed their formula or something, but it was awful.
