Hi, I'm a regular on S&B and TTTC, occasionally on ML and MM. posting a bio here per board requests. I'm a second time homeowner and have been living in my current home for a year Jun 7. it's a one story home, ~2100sf, built in 1996, 4 bed 2 bath with attached garage on about .25 acre, most of which is fenced in backyard.
my house is very dated, with original walls and fixtures. I like my hardwood flooring and the tile in the kitchen and bathroom and love my kitchen cabinets. mostly, the house needs a fresh coat of paint and updated fixtures, nothing too major. unfortunately, fixtures cost money so we'll be doing those slowly. my goal is to have every wall in my house, minus the bedrooms, stripped of wallpaper and painted by the end of the summer 2014.
PIPs of the house before. I did not take pics of the bedrooms as I am not updating them anytime soon. I apologize for any messes you see, especially in the living room. I'm not the best housekeeper but have been trying.

breakfast area off the kitchen (DH sanded and stained that table himself, I'm so proud). that's some sample paint on the wall, and that cabinet will eventually move to the foyer, and I'm going to turn that area into a little "mud room" area with a bench, hooks, a shelf above hooks.
Front door, painted with SW Raisin. DH and I plan to change that hardware sometime soon, probably satin nickel or something.
Foyer and dining. Left the area above the chair rail as is (mostly because we didn't have a ladder tall enough to reach the top, hahaha) and painted below the chair rail with SW Temperate Taupe.
Living room. Painted all over with SW Temperate Taupe. Still haven't put up my quilt, will post pics when I do that.
Breakfast nook and kitchen. SW Temperate Taupe again (I used almost 3 gallons of the stuff). There was a wallpaper border all around the top, and it was on top of beautiful stained wood above the cabinets. I could not save the wood while trying to take off the wallpaper adhesive. So it was painted. It looks nice but it would have been better if it was the pretty wood. ALSO that is a new backsplash. Stainless steel tiled, done by yours truly. I finished at about noon yesterday. I love it, it really opens up the kitchen and makes it brighter, reflects light better.
Of course, hall bath is as above.
I have not started on the master bath yet. That's just an undertaking I'm not willing to do at this moment; maybe next summer. Although I'm hoping that my next big project will be a nursery. We will also be replacing fixtures throughout the house as money allows. I had initially planned on painting the back walls of my built in bookcases with a dark plum color, but seeing as this is not our forever home, I need to make sure I don't customize too much and reduce resale. Plus, I like the contrast of the white bookcases with the medium taupe walls, it's very pleasing to my eye. One of our best friends is a realtor, actually she was our realtor when we were buying the house. She walked in yesterday evening, saw the kitchen, and gushed. "I love it!" She said it definitely helps the resale value. Whew!
DH said something yesterday and I agree with him. "It feels like it's MY home now." Yes, DH, indeed it does. It's home.
