Updating my kiddo's IEP has been a nightmare this year. Long story short, the district is trying to dismiss him from PT services. I don't agree with their eval and requested an IEE. They've been pretty shady about the whole process. (No request for an eval for dismissal, no prior written notice, failing to provide a draft before the meeting and expecting me to sign the final document on the spot.)
The district gave me a list of places where I could get an IEE, but I feel wary. The list is a whopping two choices. The first choice is a therapy center where my kid was once a patient. His therapist there was the school psychologist's mom.
I don't know anything about the second place, but my gut says that if they're listing it, it's probably not in our best interest.
Do I have to use one of those agencies, or can I find my own, assuming they meet the criteria?
The law states they must provide you with all therapists that meat the criteria. We had an IEE for one kid in K to address the new diagnosis. He had an IEE this year in speech. This is where we had the most resistance. You can choose the person but they need to meet criteria, things like knowledge of school based vs medical based.
I can switch from iPad to desktop and give more info. We needed to file for mediation to force them to do the eval. After we had to force them to follow through with what it said. We also had to file for enforcement of mediation.
