I cracked a rib (very small hairline crack according to the x-rays) and pulled a bunch of muscles coughing on Monday. Other than Motrin and cough medicine (some pill during the day and robitussin with codeine at night) there isn't anything else they can do. If you've had rib issues how long will it take to recover. The AM seems to be the worst because things resettle in my chest overnight and I don't keep up with the Motrin overnight. Not exercising is starting to get to me too The last run I had was almost two weeks because I had a bunch of asthma/allergy issues develop and the it's just been a nightmare trying to get healthy. I swear I feel like I am going to earn a frequent flier card at urgent care.
I pulled/bruised some ribs twice, when I was in high school. The first time I did it when I had pneumonia and I was coughing like crazy. The second time I got hit in the chest by a baseball.
Both times took a good 3-4 weeks before I could stop taking pain killers daily. And about 5-6 weeks before the pain was completely gone. I was told not to exercise until I was pain free with no pain killers. It felt like forever.
