if you were helping a friend-of-friend, and when you were done, they presented you with a very generous gift in appreciation. you told your friend to tell them thank you for you-- is there anything else you need to do? write a thank you card for their thank you gift? i feel weird.
Would an email be an option? I wouldn't want to put the burden of handing off a handwritten note on my friend, but I would want to write a little something saying I was happy I could help, and thanking the person for the gift. A thank you for a thank you isn't generally necessary, but in the case of a "very generous gift," I would want to do something.
I agree with catbus . I would want to thank them personally. Could you get the email from your mutual friend?
ooh..email is a good idea. my thank-you-gift was an amazon giftcard they sent via email..so i will respond to them.
ETA: urrr..nvm. amazon doesn't tell me the email address of them...it just says "the xx family sent you a gift" and the email is from amazon..i will have to ask friend for the email.
Yup, I think email is a great idea. Seems less like an endless thank you loop (thanks for thanking me for thanking you for ...)
i knooooow! i hate receiving well thought out thankyou cards...i always feel the need to thank them for it. but if i don't get one, i feel like they're being entitled brats. ahhhhh..dilemma.

I'm...usually an entitled brat. Actually I have a stack of unmailed thank you cards from before G was born that I wrote but never addressed and sent out.
